40 years on ......................................... and I've nearly aged this much preparing this show. It's a sad and sorry tale but if any of you have chosen to look the Elvis Costello wiki for this particular gig http://www.elviscostello.info/wiki/index.php/Concert_1982-09-24_Leicester you would notice a huge difference in the setlist to all previous ones in terms of structure and placement and this recording which was one of the much later concerts to come my way (though sadly I can't remember the source) shows a completely different track order and also that ten songs listed are not captured here. I could understand that absence of 5 songs, ("Alison", "Beyond Belief" and "Clubland" before "Imperial Bedroom" and the end of the first set and the last three songs that have previously wrapped up shows in the shape of "Radio Radio" and "Clowntime Is Over") and the fact that we barely get a smidgeon of "Big Sister's Clothes" her in any event. and the remaining 5 listed certainly may have appeared in the concert but are absent here. The other interesting thing in the line up of songs is the appearance of "And In Every Home" as the second song in the first encore rather than much earlier in the main set. The recording sounds like a high generation recording but it also had numerous pitch and wow errors and I've spent over an hour on some tracks trying desperately to compensate for the wildly fluctuating pitch variations within seconds of any given track. I've no doubt the more experienced listener will still pick up on these so please forgive me if I've missed any glaring errors - my two day break between gigs for this concert was entirely gobbled up by the work required here. "Shabby Doll" lacks the first few seconds, and the first pitch waver occurs in the lines "From Singapore To Widnes" in "Watch Your Step". " Watching The Detectives" was awful with jumps at 2:10, 4:18 and 4:5 being major problem and "From Head To Toe" also jumped around 1:10. We got the first ever live performance of "Everyday I Write The Book" and it's quite sweet though nothing earth shattering on first listen. The final major track with issues was "Pump It Up". Definitely one for completists and I should also point out that I believe "Accidents Will happen" is also missing from the start!
