Album Review: Elvis Costello

Secret, Profane & Sugarcane

Gavin Martin

The ever prolific Elvis Costello's latter period has been clouded by his tiresomely superior-than-thou approach.

This is a pleasant enough sounding acoustic country album, recalling King Of America (his 1986 album, which, like this latest work, featured producer T-Bone Burnett).

But the songs are less impressive - overworked, underwhelming, and the stragulated vocals soon grate.
