Auf Anti-Liebeslieder mit dem von ihm gewohnt bitteren Sarkasmus ("The Only Flame In Town," "Sour Milk-Cow Blues," "Home Truth") folgen fast journalistische Reportagen in Song-Form wie "Peace In Our Time," in denen Costello knapp und bündig auf die aktuelle US-Politik kommt (''"just another tiny island invaded, when he’s got the whole world in his hands,"'' heißt es da über Mr. Reagan, und zwei Verse später satirisch: ''"There's already one spaceman in the White House / What do you want another one for?"'').
