Costello is right in covering his face on the cover of this album. I'd be embarrassed to show my face if I released an album as worthless as this.
There's no denying the Nashville sound has had a heavy influence on Costello, but an entire album of songs by Nashville artists is going way overboard.
Once again, Costello is taking himself too seriously. He even got famed producer Billy Sherrill to replace Nick Lowe for this outing.
It didn't help. This album simply has nothing to offer. It won't please fans of Costello's previous work and it certainly won't be accepted by fans of Merle Haggard, Hank Williams or any of the other Nashville artists covered on it.
This album should change Costello's image from the angry young man to the self-indulgent, foolish young man.
