Elvis Costello is to release a new album of covers, ''The Kojak Variety'', on May 22, including songs by Bob Dylann, Willy Dixon, Ray Davies and Little Richard. The 15 tracks were originally recorded five years ago in Barbados, produced by Kevin Killen. They feature the Rude 5 band of musicians, some of whom worked on Costello's earlier ''King of America'' album. Costello is also working on soundtrack for a new Alan Bleasdale...

They feature the Rude 5 band of musicians, some of whom worked on Costello's earlier ''King of America'' album. Costello is also working on soundtrack for a new Alan Bleasdale TV series with Richard Harvey, with whom he previously wrote the Bafta award-winning music for Bleasdale's ''GBH''. In June, Costello is producing and featuring in a week-long series of musical events at London's South Bank under the title Meltdown 95. Among those appearing with Costello will be Deborah Harry, The Brodsky Quartet and the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.
