Elvis Costello in a most amiable mood at the apres-gig bash last Saturday at London's Roundhouse. "I'm not on the brandy tonight," he declared, referring to his mischievous baiting of the music press recently in Belfast. Not that he'll be talking to any of us for some considerable time, we were disappointed to learn; seems he's suspended all projected interviews and press encounters of all kinds for at least the rest of the year.
He preferred, however, to avoid this particular subject to waffle praise for Nick Lowe still, unbelievably, on the wagon.
Elvis, incidentally, made no mention of Tom Verlaine's criticisms of him in last week's ''MM''. He did, however, tell us that he attended Television's concert last week in Birmingham: "I fell asleep after three numbers."
