With the release of ''Trust'', Elvis Costello And The Attractions prove that change is a necessary catalyst for success.
Elvis Costello burst onto the American music scene as a result of the British punk and new wave explosion of 1977. Billie Joel's theme of the "Angry Young Man" only too well exemplified Costello's attitude toward red tape bureaucracy, flirtatious women and those ideas concerning the invasion of privacy produced in George Orwell's novel ''1984''.
Since those days albums such as ''My Aim Is True'', ''This Year's Model'', and ''Armed Forces'', Costello along with the Attractions has eased into a refined groove only now expressing feelings of hurt more than anger.
''Trust'', Costello's sixth album on Columbia Records, has taken the band to new heights of musical adaptability. "Watch Your Step," a track from the Lp has potential for entering into the top 40 market as a single. "Clubland" and "You'll never Be A Man" share the same potential for top forty recognition.
Together with long-time producer Nick Lowe, Elvis Costello and The Attractions have sensitized new emotion into a whirring blend of thoughtful rhetoric and combined with tight, complex melodies have created a more sincere and likable band.
