The only mayor I really knew for the bulk of the time I lived in NYC- sandwiched between Abe Beame and David Dinkins. He made the place fun and tolerable and seemed to enjoy himself and 'his' city while supervising and working at the best job he ever had. He made me proud to be a New Yorker. Always liked this little tribute to him by a friend of my wife:
