Paul Simon and Elvis Costello are among the luminaries who will perform at “A Celebration of Paul Newman’s Dream,” a fundraising event scheduled for April 2 at Avery Fisher Hall at New York City’s Lincoln Center. The benefit will raise money for the late acting legend’s Association of Hole in the Wall Camps charity, which runs a worldwide network of camps and recreational programs for children with serious illnesses.

The gala, which will be hosted by Newman’s widow, Joanne Woodward, also will feature appearances by Tina Fey, Jimmy Fallon and Jake Gyllenhaal, as well as performances from country star Trisha Yearwood and crooner Josh Groban. In addition, Hole in the Wall Camp attendees will take to the stage to perform alongside the entertainers.

Anybody going? There don't seem to be very many good seats left. I could get a single in the first tier boxes way back....not really worth the trip though.

The love affair between EC and Paul Simon continues. Maybe they will perform together at this one. BA, get in there!

Can't go but looks interesting. Yes, Elvis, with the slightly less famous other Paul again. They should play together I say. Any history of a Paul Simon cover by EC or vice versa?

I'd like to go to this if I could get a good seat. Apparently this went on sale a few weeks ago, but EC was not mentioned as a participant at that time.

According to the liner notes for the reissue of Goodbye Cruel World, the melody of Peace In Our Time was inspired by Paul Simon’s “Rene And Georgette Magritte With Their Dog After The War” .

Last night, a panoply of stars took the stage to honor Newman. Singers Paul Simon, Elvis Costello, Trisha Yearwood, Josh Groban and NaTasha Yvette Williams each performed two songs, interspersed with bits by Jimmy Fallon, Tina Fey and Jake Gyllenhaal. Donors got their money’s worth, especially with Simon giving a reworked and brilliant “Sound of Silence,” Costello doing a lesser known masterpiece, “All this Useless Beauty,” and Yearwood rocking an emotional, anthemic “Climb” with some of the camp kids on harmony. (Yearwood is really a underappreciated star.) The music was all live, and reverberated through the hallowed Hall.

Did Elvis name check the members of the string section that accompanied him? I can't seem to find the details anywhere.

http://www.metro.us/newyork/entertainme ... ikes-again

The stars came out for A Celebration of Paul Newman's Dream on Monday night at New York City's Lincoln Center to pay tribute to the late actor and his SeriousFun Children's Network, which sends sick children around the world to summer camp. Though performer Trisha Yearwood told us she had never spent her summers by the campfire, and Elvis Costello didn't take part across the pond ("They didn't have them in England. They barely had tent pegs," he said), we did get to hear about singer Josh Groban's warm weather adventures.

Brief shot Elvis later in this -
