Does this mean that Mystery Dance will be broadcast on WOWOW (Japanese TV) on Feb 11, 2014?

On Swedish tv this weekend

Elvis Costello i närbild

Kommer att publiceras i SVT Play

Musik special.

A newly produced documentary about the British rock icon. Elvis Costello talks with relaxed humor of childhood as Declan MacManus, growing up and the success of one night with The Attractions. No portrait of Costello is arguably the definitive - he switches so often between musical styles and partners. But tonight's documentary by Mark Kidel is probably as close as you can get.

Även i SVT2 29/12 och SVT24 31/12

Happy to hear there is a longer version out there. I found the one hour version respectful but too brief and rushed. But difficult to judge from a fan point of view. Best parts are, of course, the interviews with EC. "Steve Nieve can easily dominate a whole song if you let him." Or something like that :)

Is there any kind of deal in place for this to air in the US, or are they waiting for it to seem incomplete and out-of-date?

Already, there will be a documentary about the making of the album he made AFTER this doc was completed which will air before US audiences see this one!

Jan Gardberg posts -

Ahead of Costello's upcoming Tampere gig, Finnish TV is showing the longer version of Mark Kidel's acclaimed documentary Elvis Costello: Mystery Dance. Loads of people from Paul McCartney to T-Bone Burnett and Allen Toussaint are interviewed.

I direct messaged , via Twitter, Mark Kidel about these showings. He thanked me & I asked if there was any news about a DVD release . He answered -

I am afraid that a DVD release is unlikely unless Universal decide to do it

Any chance Universal will allow it to stream on Netflix or something? Or does Universal have ANY plans to allow US audiences to watch it other than via illegal downloads?

What a horrible time!! Luckily I'm up all night writing a book, so might have it on as motivation. Yeah, that's a good excuse!

Does anyone know if this doc is available to watch online anywhere?

For UK people, the show is now on BBC Iplayer for a brief period. Going to have a watch this weekend. 2am was a ridiculous time to broadcast it, even if it was a repeat.

The shorter version of Mark Kidel's documentary is on Irish tv tonight, at ten to one in the morning. TG4 is usually in the Irish language but also features programming with connections to Irish heritage. English language shows sometimes have subtitles in Irish - if I can figure out how to program it I'll find out if it happens in this case.

WTF? It's Showtime, for chrissakes.
They can't find a way to shoehorn in the long version?

Makes you wonder if they even are aware that there was one.
I'm afraid that the long version is falling thru the cracks of history.
