Ray Davies' Meltdown 2011
...aka London's most unfortunately named festival given our economic situation and recent events in Japan.
Has anyone heard anything any rumours about who might be playing this year? The website still stays the line-up will be revealed "early in 2011" but still nothing, presumably it's less than 3 months away now.
I predict that Ray Davies will be playing.

Re: Ray Davies' Meltdown 2011
Hello Roofdog- I too am most curious to see what kind of a program he puts together. My curiousness stems from a general ignorance of what he favors in music. He has been a most insular star from that golden period of pop music who has seemed in the past to march only to his own inner musician. One does not see him outside of the Kinks or his own solo career. He seems to have spent his entire career guarding and grooming his own musical heritage. I am most eager to see what he wishes to pay homage to beyond that musical heritage. I hope his health is strong as I have heard he never properly healed from the gunshot wound he suffered in New Orleans.

Well the dates are confirmed as Friday 10th - Sunday 19th June but no acts announced. Be interesting to see what he comes up with. One of our most underrated living songwriters in my opinion.

It will be interesting to see the acts.
I wonder if Paul Weller might be involved.

Re: Ray Davies' Meltdown 2011
Soooo... the Fugs, Geno Washington, Nick Lowe, the Sonics and Wire jump off that list for me. Apparently this year's Meltdown is part of the 'Festival Of Britain' the Southbank are running over the summer. Given this one includes the Fugs and the Sonics I'm not sure how accurate that is.
The Sonics and Wire on the same bill and I can't bloody go because I'm at a wedding I didn't want to go to in the first place I have a long and distinguished history of missing Wire gigs.

It looks great!
I wonder if there are any ushers jobs going at the Royal Festival Hall, it'll be the only way I'd get to see who I wanted (i.e. most of it!)

Re: Ray Davies' Meltdown 2011
Pretty much what I suspected- a definite 60s time warp- couldn't resist showing my wife the Crazy World of Arthur Brown slot as she still will not forgive me for throwing out her old, scratched copy of the LP many years ago- even the offer of a trip across the pond to catch this show will not place me back in good graces for that egregious act! Alan Price, The Fugs, Peter Asher- you name it- that lineup looks an awful lot like a fund raiser lineup for the local PBS station here in NY when they put on the oldies acts.

Damn - I'd love to be able to get to the Davies, Jones/Palin and Lowe shows. Unfortunately I will be in Nashville across that period.

Re: Ray Davies' Meltdown 2011
I'm heading over to shoot a documentary (which will be of interest to some here, but am keeping under my hat for the time being) and to catch up with some old friends. Hopefully I will catch a gig or two while there - Marty Stuart's Late Night Jam at the Ryman is already locked in (tickets in the mail) and a trip or two to the Loveless Barn for Music City Roots is definitely in order.migdd wrote:What brings you to Nashville, Jeremy?
