Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
[This should have it's own thread, but what the hell...]
I love April 5th and would really like to be able to play, at least the chorus, for my 30th wedding anniversary on 22nd November, can anyone
(looking at you in particular Mr Got-a-request-played-in-Liverpool)
help me out?
Easy chords only please for these little hands of concrete.
Here's hoping.

D
I have a friend
She's just a friend
...............G
I tried to comfort and defend
................................................D
I gave her what you might call advice
...................................................E.........A
But nothing like that comes without a price
...................D
The rumour was a cruel surprise
....................G
And she dissolved before my eyes
.................................................G/f#.....Em
I offered my hand and hers and mine entwined
........................................................................A...................D
I thought about back then when I wished that she had been mine
............................G......G/f#.....Em
There's no use in shedding any tears
..........................D........................
He's no good to you the way he is
G........G/f#......Em...............A7
He's beyond forgiving and believing
.................D
Half of his heart is torn like paper
.........................G.........G/f#......Em
It's sweet as the syrup from the maple
............................A..........................D
But that's not the part of him you're leaving

Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
Just worked out A CONDEMNED MAN:
Am
Judge said, "Son, you better say your prayers
-------------------------------F------E
Got a noose that fits you and some gallow stairs
----Am---Am/g--------------------E
And by this time tomorrow you won't be alive
Am---------Am/g----F
Soon we'll be giving you 10,000 volts"
E---------------------------Am
And I said, "Make that twenty-five"
The firing squad have got me right in their sights
Got me strapped up tightly with some dynamite
And I hear the executioner has got a brand new kink
He's giving me cyanide to breathe and strychnine to drink
----F-----C/b--Am
So dress me in chains and bind me in shackles
----F--------C/b--Am
The last thing you'll hear is my cold-hearted cackle
----F------C/b---Am----D-------G
The last thing you'll see is my twisted leer
------C---C7----F---------E-------------Am
I'm a condemned man and I'll never get out of here
----G----------D-------------F---------C
The searchlight's sweeping up from the prison tower
----G--------D------------F---------C
The clock is creeping up to the midnight hour
----G--------D-------F-------F------F---------C
Outside they're wailing, "Repent, repent, repent, and believe"
-------C7--------F----------------------E
There's a telephone ringing but no chance of reprieve
Am
All you straight-shooters and God-fearing dolts
------Am----Am/g----F-------E
Can be scared rigid by electrical volts
---F--C/b---Am--------D-----G
But I can't be killed by any regular means
---C------C7----F-------E---------------------Am
Or I'll come back to haunt you and visit your dreams

Yo Jeremy that is awesome man, if there was a song on Ransack that should have been on the album this was it.
It's not the days when you leave me, but all I fear are the nights.
Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
i've over simplified here, but this works a bit, kinda, sorta...
JIMMIE STANDING IN THE RAIN
Dm
Third-Class ticket in his pocket
Edim....................................A
Punching out the shadows underneath the sockets
Dm........................ Edim................Dm
Tweed coat turned up against the fog
Dm
Slow coaches rolling o’er the moor
C#dim
Between the very memory
......................A
And approaches of war
Dm.........................Gm
Stale bread curling on a luncheon counter
Dm.............................Gm
Loose change lonely, not the right amount
Dm............................Gm
Forgotten Man of an indifferent nation
Dm ...................................Gm
Waiting on a platform at a Lancashire station
Dm .............................. C#dim
Somebody’s calling you again
.................Gm
The sky is falling
................ Dm................Gm Dm
Jimmie’s standing in the rain
if anyone elses hands are as concrete as mine, here's the trick w. c#dim.
basically, play a D chord, then move it down one string and put your little finger on G (third fret) on the high E string.
so for Edim, simply slide this up 3 frets. play the Dm up at the fifth fret as a barre chord. makes it easieer to switch to Edim which is right at the same spot-ish on the neck
gulp. my apologies to those who can seem more of this. i could clearly see in his letterman performance that the song is actually much more complex than this, but this is a start in making it manageable for these old fingers.

Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
last line should be
Dm Gm Dm
Jimmie’s standing in the rain
Dm Gm Dm
Jimmie’s standing in the rain
Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
sorry about this, when i cut and pasted, the text moved the chords over incorrectly. i'll try starting this again and repost
Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
last one. sorry. tried moving the chords over the right words and then ended up sliding to the left all over again. so the chords above the line are the right oversimplified ones, but where they are placed is screwed up...

Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
You need to put dots or dashes between the chords - multiple spaces between words get closed up on this board. So do something likejardine wrote:last one. sorry. tried moving the chords over the right words and then ended up sliding to the left all over again. so the chords above the line are the right oversimplified ones, but where they are placed is screwed up...
d
Dm........Gm.........Dm
so the spacing turns out right.

Re: Jimmie Standing In The Rain's chords (HELP!!!!)
This is a very easy song to play it's just a matter of depicting those 4 finger chords he has every alternate chord.
