Walking On Thin Ice by Elvis - 'full' version available

A longer, 'full' version of Elvis' cover of Yoko Ono's Walking On Thin Ice has been released. Recorded in 1983 for a tribute album to Yoko Ono for her 50th birthday , it has always clocked in at about 3.46 , for it's original 1984 vinyl release and the 1995/2003 re-issues of Punch The Clock. This timing may have been dictated by the timings of the other tracks on the tribute album. It ends rather abruptly , with a fade out as Elvis' vocal continues.
This Vinyl, 12",' Unofficial Release' on the NYNX label lasts about 6.20. Whereas the '84 release has about ten seconds of a instrumental introduction, this time we get about forty seconds. The extra c.two minutes are taken up with a repeat of verses two and three and a more gradual end fade. They may well be a mere looping of the earlier performances, as may be the longer intro.. Even though it's a Allen Toussaint production it's probable that he was a likely as they all were back then to use the digital trickery that was standard. The vinyl label doesn't have any details regarding production , so it's not clear if anyone else had a hand in this longer version. The extra time serves the song well, allowing a really groovy bass sound to establish itself.
I got a copy via the above link.

Martin may, eventually, do one of those file things - if he feels like it. I don't know how to do same. Take it from me , however, it's the same track as has been around since '84 , just longer. And sounding more complete and better.

Why isn't there a share folder on Mediafire (or the like) for such things?

€5.61, including postage.how much did it cost ya
It's unofficial, so it won't be out there long. Grab it while you can ; someone has bought the cheapest option since I first posted.
'You can only go to hell once', as Elvis told us once.not EC approved i would imagine.

John, when you say it's the same track, is it really just a loop of what's already been heard, in other words, no actual new performance?
I tried to buy it and the cheap one was up, put it in the cart and then had to register for the site, by which time they had taken it out of my cart and sold it to someone else! Kinda put me off, plus I'm sure shipping would be high....
if you tell me there's any actually new playing here I'll buy it , but if it's just a remix like the old 12 inch remixes from the 80s, then no....

All shall be revealed later ; Martin promises to do a soundfile ASAP.
You can , of course, decide after hearing it but this longer version does not, most likely , contain any new sound elements. However , to repeat what I've already posted, the extra few minutes does let the piece as whole develop better. There is also the warmer, more subtle sound that vinyl played on a decent system has. Minor points, perhaps, to some but definite plus points for others.

Why he hasn't played this live is odd. Is it a royalties issue?

Probably. Yoko's pretty tight with the business, right? Too bad 'cause it's an excellent version of an excellent song.SoulForHire wrote:Why he hasn't played this live is odd. Is it a royalties issue?

My computer skills can't seem to extend to figuring out how to share the above mediafire file to youtube. Could someone here have a go at it?

Reportedly-allegedly this is still shared on Soulseek since it first appeared there about 6 years ago.
