Tower of Song

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Well it's been a while...

Out The Band cos I don't think I know that, in with Moz cos the Smiths went, and it's one of his best solo moments, and features genius guitar work by my hero Vini Reilly (who incidentally grew up listening to Fats DOmino and was on Factory records from the outset, so no. 7 sits well nearby):

1. The Man With the Child in His Eyes - Kate Bush
2.Sweet Little Mystery - John Martyn
3.Positive Vibration - Bob Marley & Wailers
4.Kinghorse - Elvis Costello
5.Wild Horses - Gram Parsons
6.Gods Away on Business - Tom Waits
7.Blue Monday-Fats Domino
8.Clash City Rockers - The Clash
9. Fair Play - Van Morrison
10. Late Night, Maudlin Street- Morrissey

Bit of a heavy night. but then you were only half right in that I changed the song, but not the artist. Then again, I got the song name wrong! He sings 'the last night on Maudlin Street' but the title is as above.

Seems a timely moment to add Fats by Thin Lizzy from the excellent late career album Renegade. It's better than at least half the songs on there (though all I could find on youtube was this demo version):

Out with Elvis because most people here have probably heard that song.

You could at least spell his name correctly! Actually, you're not to blame, self-styled spelling maestro Christopher managed to do that to my correct version.

Sorry, Mood, don't take it personal. Out with the country, in with 'your name was Deborah, it never suited ya'.

The Fleets! Wahey. Nice choice.

Saw Echo Beach performed live on Saturday. Great song.

Love the Judy song, but Mood has got us a theme going, and who am I to refuse? Out with The Clash (not one of my absolute faves, definitely second tier), in with the mighty Bolan:

1. The Man With the Child in His Eyes - Kate Bush
2. Judy in Disguise - John Fred & The Playboy Band
3. Oh Caroline - The Beach Boys
4. Fats - Thin Lizzy
5. Disco 2000 - Pulp
6. Echo Beach - Martha and the Muffins
7. It Takes a Village Idiot - Graham Parker
8. Debora - T Rex
9. Deborah - Dave Edmunds with Rockpile
10. Your Protector - Fleet Foxes

Do lyrics get any better than?:

Oh Debora, always look like a zebra
Your sunken face is like a galleon
Clawed with mysteries of the Spanish Main, oh Debora...

[Never knew it was 'clawed'.]

There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more
