"Lost Highway will release Momofuku on vinyl LP from Elvis Costello, =
planning the release for April 22."
Anybody know anything about this? Seems a bit unlikely doesn't it?

A quick Google search tells me that Momofuku is a type of Asian noodle, so I think we can safely file this one under "Unlikely" or "Puzzling".

Momofuku and Elvis Costello both turn up in this brief interview from Fodor's with Anthony Bourdain, that chain-smoking chef from TV:
http://www.fodors.com/news/story_2939.html
http://www.fodors.com/news/story_2939.html
Fodor's: Do you ever go out to hear live music?
AB: Never. I don't care if it's the Beatles or the Stones with all their original members somehow exhumed and back from the dead. I don't know which is worse: to be packed in a room with a lot of people half your age, in which case you feel like an idiot, or even worse, go see someone you've really loved for a long time, like Elvis Costello, and you look around and see all the other original fans and they're all old and hideous just like you. It's a totally depressing experience. I just don't go out and see music anymore.

So a vinyl-only field recording of Elvis eating noodles? What?

Lead single: "Noodle Time."

I saw that on the Music Tap site, did a Google search, found nothing, and forgot about it. Part of me is hoping it's a misprint.

Then there's the classic misheard lyric revealed years ago on the listserv:
But he's not the man you'd think that he can be
I just don't know why you can't see
That he is only eating pasta!

I love that Bourdain quote! Although it just amuses me to see my contemporaries at gigs, and feel relief that I haven't had to go down the 'shaven-headed seaside thug' hairstyle route as they mostly seem to have done!

My first thought was that it was the sort of insult that could get you beheaded in Japan!Who Shot Sam? wrote:A quick Google search tells me that Momofuku is a type of Asian noodle, so I think we can safely file this one under "Unlikely" or "Puzzling".

Another report, that could be a rehash of the musictap piece
http://www.direct-current.net/index.php#newsStory2996
It wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. That Jenny Lewis session guest shot and the Imposters taking part in other sessions reports looked like a smokescreen while the gaffer quickly laid down a bunch of tracks that he wrote on the tour bus last autumn. Radioheads release strategy has rewritten the rulebook and albums will be coming out a lot quicker from now on.

The intriguing part is that Direct Current calls it a "new studio album" — a detail which did not appear in the MusicTAP report.

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
On today's MusicTap post:
"A few posts back, I mentioned the arrival of Momofuku by Elvis Costello. I stated that it would be released on LP, but I have a note in my mail box that says that it is expected on CD. The listed date is April 22, with the releasing label being Lost Highway."
A Google search brought me nothing else.

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
Call me pessimist but I seriously doubt EC has a new studio album in the can. Just last month he stated in a Word interview that he was going to "let the blood settle into the ground" before releasing any new material. The entire tone of the interview was that he was contiinuing to write new songs but had no immediate plans to release them in any official way. If he is to release mamaf**kyu on April 22, surely he had recorded it prior to granting the interview in February. I'm pretty sure it's highly unlikely for an artist to get an album recorded and released my a major (or minor for that matter) record company in two months time. Or maybe EC was lying about not recording. Or maybe. . .

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
The best guess in my opinion has Connor (from listserv). (I hope he doesn't mind if I quote him here).
Borrowing the name from a restaurant has
me wondering if this could be the long-awaited
follow-up to Kojak Variety (which was named after a
grocery store in Barbados).
I'm just thinking-- obviously, if this is a record
that was recorded quickly and quietly, a covers album
certainly be a possibility. With the title of this
mysterious "new album" as our only clue, it makes as
much sense as anything, doesn't it? And who knows,
maybe since he's opening for The Police, he included
his ukulele-driven cover of "Every Little Thing She
Does Is Magic"...
My bet for Momofuku is also a new Covers Album.

Since you put me down, it seems i've been very gloomy. You may laugh but pretty girls look right through me.
Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
That actually makes a lot of sense...
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.
Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
Especially in light of the fact that when Kojak Variety was originally released, Elvis went on record in several places that he'd hoped the album would just 'show up in the shops' without any publicity. Maybe he's finally going to achieve that.....
Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
The Raconteurs just announced out of the blue that that they're putting out an album next week, so I'm sure Elvis could wind up doing something similar.
Surprise! Here's a new album!

Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
A covers album could be off to a good start if it included The Greatest Love, What Do You Want the Girl to Do and Yes We Can Can all of which exist in some form from the RIR sessions maybe with Hey Bulldog and All I've Got to Do from the tour last May
I too am a limited, primitive kind of man
Re: 'Lost Highway will release Momofuku from Elvis Costello'
Okay, looks like I'll have to eat crow on this one.
http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/news/art ... 1003728188
Elvis Costello's next solo studio album, curiously dubbed "Momofuku," will arrive April 22 via Lost Highway on CD and double-vinyl. No other details have been released about the follow-up to 2005's "The Delivery Man."
Since then, Costello recorded "The River in Reverse" with pianist Allen Toussaint and supervised the first wave of his back catalog reissues through Universal. The most recent of those, "This Year's Model," arrived March 4.
