MAIT Pint Glass - what have you done with yours?

Post by johnfoyle »

I took mine on a tour of Dublin.

Image

Visiting the spot in St. Stephens Green Park where Elvis and co. posed for the PTC cover in June 1983 -

Image

The bin outside The Shelbourne Hotel that Elvis posed with the same year -

Image

- has been replaced with this less evocative fixture -

Image

Then it's on to the boardwalk hanging over the Liffey , leading to the Ha'Penny Bridge , for a caffè e latte-

Image

........and finally to my local for a pint .

Image

Mickey , the barman, had reservations about preparing the drink. Y'see the glass is the wrong shape. The more usual glass is narrower towards it's base. This is important since , when the Guinness is poured in, the motion of the liquid expanding up the wider utensil helps create the creamy, thick head.

Like this -

..........also posed in my local.......I wish......

John - That is hilarious, but I'm a bit worried that you haven't been taking your tablets.

Glad to hear you're making good use of that fine glass, Mr. Foyle. Mine is still sitting on a shelf, awaiting a tour of Clover, South Carolina, USA! Bojangles, here we come!!!

I took my MAIT glass out to visit some more Costello-related Dublin locations.

In early '02 Elvis did some publicity photos for WIWC.

One was on the beach on the the south part of Dublin bay that is uncovered when the tide is out -

Image

The tide was in when I visited the location( by the Booterstown railway station) last Sunday. Since I wasn't in ' Miracle Man ' mode this is the best I could do -

Image

Mojo magazine had him pose by the 40 Foot swimming baths near Sandycove -

Image

It was crowded with children doing a swim for charity so a strange man hanging around with a camera wouldn't have been terribly welcome so this hasty shot was all I could get -

Image

Now.......is anyone else going to take their glass for a walk and add to this thread?

I regret I also have no MAIT pint glass, as I surmised such an object would not survive the journey to Australia.

But keep up the good work John!

For US listeners, it looks like the glasses might still be available: http://www.newburycomics.com/rel/v2_vie ... 03-261104N

Much as I'd like the pint glass I'm already enjoying my newest edition of MAIT and think I'll wait a few motnhs until it's re-re-re-re-re-issued with the SF Clover show for my next copy

Another view of where Elvis once crouched , if he had posed at the other side of the ESB towers in Ringsend-
( the weakest of reasons but I just have to share this photo!)

Just stumbled on another Elvis-in-Dublin image -

Image

Looks like I'll have to get out 'n about with my glass again! Thing is , it's the docks in 1991and they have changed a lot since then.
