Bitchin'... I'm there... unless he pulls into SF for a gig. I hope there is snow in the Sierras, too. I can get some x-country skiing in while I'm there.

Could he be doing a solo tour? If so, it's been awhile and could result in some unpredicatable setlists...

Unless the pass is shut and you get stuck and your forced to eat some of the less fortunate members of your traveling party  I hate when that happens.
Everyone just needs to fuckin’ relax. Smoke more weed, the world is ending.

Have you passed the summit?

The pass won't be shut down in May. The Sierras have 1/2 the base they had last year.. It's cold and dry this year. So, I presume, the month of May will not be so "Donner" style... If I make the trek, I'm bring running shoes, a mtn bike, AND skis - and select one for whatever condition..... I'll pull off near Donner/Castle Peak.... It's one of my favorite places to bike/hike.. From listerv -

Just an hour and 45 minutes, no surprises.

EC chattier than previously and made "the call" early on to make up for
the
rocks in the first 4 rows. Security melted away after 40 minutes or so
allowing everyone up front.

The intro music being used is John Cooper Clark's "I Don't Want to be
Nice"

Here he comes now....
The fast fingers, the expert eyes
And the same old 'how'd you do'
Disgust is just his dumb disguise
He wants a word with you

His problems are the end
His mouth needs exercise
The last thing I need is another friend
I don't want to be nice

I don't want to be nice
I think it's clever to swear
Better seek some sound advice
Better look elsewhere

Your face is an obvious case
You shouldn't put it about
This is neither the time nor place
To sort these matters out

What you see is what you get
You only live twice
A friend in need is a friend in debt
I don't want to be nice

No we never met before
I'm very happy to say
Far from perfect strangers
I'd like to keep it that way

I'm not your psychoanalyst
I'd rather talk to mice
You're so easy to resist
I don't want to be nice

I don't want to be nice
I think it's clever to swear
Better seek some sound advice
Better look elsewhere

Your face is an obvious case
You shouldn't put it about
This is neither the time nor place

I went to both the SF and Reno shows. SF show was much better. Maybe it was the crowd... E.C. was excellent and the band was outstanding. The two Beatles covers were a real treat.

Other notes:
My friend and I drank about a boat load of Cape Cods in Reno. Not much else to do while you're trying to navigate through Reno's tacky casinos in search of a bar. (very depressing scene). One casino was called Fitzgeralds... what the hell, I never knew the Irish were gamblers.. I didn't go in but something tells me it had an Irish theme to it - you know, cheesy-ass leprechauns, clovers, maybe some rainbows and unicorns thrown in with green lights all over... hideous, no doubt.

The guitar tech is hot.

I think I saw Carrot Top at the Reno show. I wasn't sure though, I couldn't see very well after several drinks in.

Battle Mountain, NV, is known to be the "armpit of America," but I really think it's Reno. Anyone who ventures through this part of Nevada, I recommend you keep on driving until you hit Lake Tahoe.

EC rules!

Blimey! Elvis /his people playing something by the Bard of Salford, Manchester.
Considering how beastly he has been about the place this is a significant indication of reapproachment.

Review: Costello still the real deal

Matt Farley (MFARLEY@RGJ.COM)

RENO GAZETTE-JOURNAL
May 5, 2007

At 52, musical chameleon Elvis Costello is better known now for his opera compositions and piano ballads than for the ‘70s punk sound that got him barred from “Saturday Night Liveâ€
