What are you drinking right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I'm drinking some atrocious chocolate/cherry coffee thing I received in a gift basket that's been languishing in the freezer for some time. Only stuff in the house, unfortunately.

Sounds like the trash would have been a better destination! Excusable in the absence of anything better, I guess. I've just had a cup of strong French roast from the coffee machine with absolutely nothing else to corrupt the purity of the bean. That's the way to do it!

It might not surprise you to hear I've relished every last second of Lloyd's Antidepressant today, in between footie games, which gets more enthralling the more you play it, like all his best stuff. The cliche of 'fans will love it, but it won't win new ones' is probably true, in which case too bad. I confess I treid to answer the question 'why play Billy Bragg when you could play this instead?' and failed to summon one coherent reason. I also thought of the comparison that listening to Lloyd is like Saturday afternoon in the Frick museum with Vermeer, Constable, Holbein, Bellini and co, whereas BB is more like a cartoon in the newspaper. No comparison! I'm sure you'll love that one. No fear, I'm going to listen to his best moments and probably see him live and see if I shift, just to prove how open my mind is.

PS I'm not drinking anything right now.

That's laying it on little thick. True, though, in that I don't listen to BB's music so much for subtle shades of meaning and nuance as I do for warmth, humor and passion. There's far too much music out there devoid of all of those things.

Not that I'm even all that familiar with either musician's body of work, nor am I arguing that one is any better than the other, but as far as I know Billy Bragg is a lot more respected than Lloyd Cole is at this point.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Don't rub it in!

I'm on the Knob Creek, souvenir of NY. I prefer bourbon over all blended scotch (though not over malts, of course) and most blended Irish, and this is one of the nicest I've had. It has a dryness and complexity of flavour in the finish. Lovely, and good to drink at all times of the day.

That's the stuff. Had some of it years ago at my uncle's place in Vermont, after a dinner of Porterhouse steaks and a bottle of '86 Haut Brion. Yum.

Enjoying a bit of this fine South African wine at the moment...

A very fine Top Shelf Margarita.

Okay, I'm on my third or fourth. But all the kids except one are out of town and I actually even had time for a soak in the tub and everything!

Which state is that from? I had some great beer in NY - Brooklyn lager, brown and not lagerlike, but very tasty, and a couple of others. Sadly we equate US beer with Bud and Coors over here.

I'm on the Cointreau. On ice. Remembered I had a bottle on the shelf, hidden behind the vast array of other bottles, got it for margaritas (Tesco didn't have triple sec that day...). Forgotten how much I like it.

I must have a drinking problem: water, tea and instant breakfast with soy milk all in front of me.
Like me, the "g" is silent.

Some fairly inexpensive bottle of shiraz that my neighbor, a wine wholesaler, gave to us. Does the trick.

Lucky for us his wife doesn't drink, so he has case after case of wine he is willing to give away for merely fedding their cats when they're out of town.

A nice cup of tea.

Last week I had so many days on the beer that I began to feel ill. It does not help having a best friend who works for Carlsberg and always has a full fridge in the garage!

This week I intend to detox a little and recover my equilibrium. :(

The new Tab. For some strange reason, what used to be the first Diet Cola (or close to it) is now an energy drink with the flavor of a Green Apple Jolly Rancher candy. And for some perhaps stranger reason, I love it.
