Battle of the Song Versions: Motel Matches

Post by strangerinthehouse »

Hello Ladies and gentelmen.

Step into the ring, cast your vote, choose your favorite version of an Elvis Costello classic. Listen to your albums, your reissue bonus disc, you bootlegs and singles, your downloads and ipods. This is not about the best but the one song interpretation that touches your heart, that is overplayed and scratched, the version that pleases you the most or the one that displays your current mood.

Round One is Motel Matches
if you have another version that you preffer the most, tell us what it is and it will be gratefully considered
And you try so hard
to be like the big boys

Not to be difficult, but I like the alternate Get Happy version on the bonus disc.

All right

i didn't include it because i thought it sounded too much like the original version, although i do think EC's vocal was much better in that alternate take.

the two other versions are so different, On the Almost Blue Bonus Disc the song becomes a great country ballad while on the GCW Bonus DIsc all you hear is EC's Voice and an Organ and it sounds so private yet very telling.
