Any Kentucky posters?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Any Kentucky posters?

Post by wehitandrun »

I encourage you to listen to whatever station that Howard Stern creep usually broadcasts on tomorrow morning, 6am-10am. Opie & Anthony have shattered all boundaries of Radio and are on both XM Satellite radio AND commercial radio.

Howard is on an early vacation. O&A have officially ruined it- and it's wonderful..

*EDIT: It's "95-X", whatever station that is.

Something cheaper, that passes for free speech...

Post by A rope leash »

Yes, early morning DJs are lifting us out of our cultural mire.

Whether he knows it or not, WHAR is what known as a “shill”. He may be brainwashed-oblivious to it, or he may actually be paid to do it. In it’s least form, it is an irritant of inane taint. In it’s worst form, it is disruptive. The shill keeps lowering the level of conversation, posting everywhere, and turning the conversation to his own commercial objectives or political aspirations.

Paid shill or not, WHAR should know that Elvis Costello really doesn’t like radio. Don’t kid yourself; XM and Sirius are commercial radio enterprises. You pay for it, and that is a commercial transaction. They give everyone what they want, and an awful lot of people are willing to pay for lowbrow pap and propaganda.

I don’t come to this site looking for advertising. I suppose a little, board-approved advertising would not be abhorrent, but WHAR posts everywhere, and everywhere you go we get to see his commercials…commercials for the worst kind of crap that Elvis Costello in no way would approve of.

So, as everyone who has been to Tin Pan Alley has seen, I too have fallen prey to the Great Irritant. I’m sure many of you have enjoyed our little pissing match, maybe some even more than I myself have enjoyed it. But the bottom line is this: I don’t think WHAR is a legitimate poster for this board. He is not an Elvis Costello fan; he is a witting or unwitting shill for corporate crap. He seems to have a great need to post here, judging by his many, hastily posted posts. I don’t really have a great need, I just like fucking with people.

As long as WHAR is allowed to post profusely with his radio-headed bile, a rope leash will not be posting. That’s fine for some, and fine for me.

I wish these provoked battles wouldn't leave their provoking thread.

If you're going to start with me, Rope, have the decency of... OH, you're leaving. Great.

*Edit:
I love Elvis, but that doesn't mean I have to love his politics (despite the fact that I pretty much agree with his stances on everything).

I have XM Radio for Opie & Anthony. I would pay any amount to hear them everyweek, whether EC likes them or not.

Sometimes you have to stop trying to be your favorite musician, and also put the phoney revolution away for your own personal taste.

I am posting this week from Southwestern Ohio, about 45 miles from the Kentucky border. SW Ohio is similar to Kentucky, but with a deeper shade of Blue.

Regarding Kentucky Posters, I won't officially qualify. But Billy Ray Cyrus, who holds the coveted position as owning the #2 worst song of all time (Achy Breaky Heart) is an official Kentucky Poseur.

Well, you know, a thread that STARTS with a shout out to Opie and Anthony is not going to end well.

http://billboardradiomonitor.com/radiom ... 1000740535
Since Citadel active rock WAQX Syracuse began airing Opie & Anthony in morning drive on Dec. 20, XM Satellite Radio has been fielding calls from other terrestrial stations inquiring about the pair’s availability. XM executive VP of programming Eric Logan tells Billboard Radio Monitor that XM is “evaluating that market on a case-by-case basis.” And Bob Eatman, the personalities' agent, says he and XM are "very interested in expanding the base and brand of Opie & Anthony."

The decision to run the stars of XM’s premium “High Voltage” channel in place of Howard Stern while he is on vacation came from Citadel headquarters in New York and was offered to 95X. That came on the heels of a previous Citadel move that agitated Stern, the decision to begin cutting off his show at 10 am on its four Stern affiliates, which began Nov. 29.

Now Citadel has upped the ante in its dispute with Stern over his move to satellite radio. “While Howard’s on vacation, we’re providing our listeners with some fresh entertainment” Citadel-Syracuse OM Tom Mitchell tells Monitor. “We have every intention of honoring our contract with Stern.”

The satellite radio contract that talent agent Bob Eatman forged for O&A differs from the one that Stern inked with Sirius, which makes Sirius the exclusive radio outlet for Stern beginning in January 2006. “We definitely have that option [to air terrestrially] with this contract that we signed,” Gregg Hughes (Opie) told Billboard Radio Monitor’s Bram Teitelman in an interview in September. “I’d personally like satellite radio to be so successful for us that we never go back to commercial radio. But we’ll definitely keep that option open. Maybe there’s a form of our show that we can make available to commercial radio.”

Apparently there is. 95X is taking the pair’s XM feed, editing it to conform to over-the-air standards, and running it the following morning. Having a full day to sanitize O&A could make the previously banished personalities a more attractive proposition for terrestrial stations now.

"With Stern announcing his exit, we thought it would be a perfect time to announce Opie & Anthony's entrance to terrestrial radio,” Eatman told Monitor. "We've heard from a lot of stations."

“We’ll take it one step at a time and move slowly, case by case,” says XM’s Logan. Could the availability of the show on free over-the-air radio cannibalize XM efforts to lure O&A fans as subscribers? No, says Logan. XM is the only outlet for their uncensored show, he notes, and it is available to XM subscribers “on-demand,” since channel 202 repeats their morning show continuously, 24/7.

WHAR,

It's privilege. Not that I'm surprised that a fan of sophomoric crotch-comedy would have trouble spelling. Just FYI.

Hah, thanks.

It's not sophomoric crotch-comedy either. You're obviously not a listener, so keep your ignorant and ill-informed opinion to yourself.

Never heard Opie and Anthony, but it saddens me that, after leaving Mayberry he had to partner up with the late Anthony "What Kind of Fool Am I?" Newley to start a "morning zoo" and encourage people to have sex in religious settings....not that there's anything wrong with that.

Gee, I'm sorry WHAR. I guess I thought a contest (as described by the hosts themselves) where the show encouraged people to have sex in public places, like churches, with extra points for exposing their genitals counted both as sophomoric and crotch-oriented. But you're quite right. There's no comedy involved at all. My bad.

"Opie and Anthony’s regular features include “The lesbian couch”, “teen week”, and “Whip ‘em Out Wednesdays.” Their brand of sophomoric, Howard Stern influenced humor struck a chord with listeners. Their top-rated status led to a syndication deal with WNEW’S parent company Infinity Broadcasting, and coverage in several national magazines including Rolling Stone and Time."

And that's from a fan:
Author: Joe Adrignola
--taken from an Opie & Anthony fan message board.

And from Time.com:

From Time.com:

"You might not think people would choose to listen to conversations in a frat house. Yet every afternoon Opie and Anthony spend four hours calling each other gay, drooling over hot moms and barraging women to "whip 'em out." It's not even a carefully constructed frat chat: an hour before airtime, six staff members, all guys, sit around watching Jackass, shooting baskets and occasionally surfing news websites. They're less like people preparing for a radio show than people waiting for a pizza.

The office even looks like a frat house. Porno tapes line the bookshelves. Opie's desk, littered with such research material as Maxim, FHM, Stuff and Seventeen, is flanked by two Britney Spears posters. Anthony's desk, littered with a Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen book, video and T shirt, sits under a poster of the twins. "Look how hot they're getting. And that's an old picture," Anthony says. On further inspection, he dismisses Mary-Kate as the priss. "Ashley is the goer."

The entire country will have a chance to hear what guys talk about when they're trying really hard to sound like guys. Infinity Broadcasting, the radio arm of Viacom, this month began syndicating The Opie & Anthony Show, based in New York City, to such cities as Chicago, Dallas and Philadelphia, and will soon have them on about 20 stations. Viacom hopes O&A can duplicate their ratings success in New York, where they are often No. 1 in their prime demographic-- men 25 to 49. Gregg (Opie) Hughes (he looks like Opie from The Andy Griffith Show), 36, and Anthony Cumia, 39, are the descendants of Howard Stern, replacing his sour trangressiveness with male realpolitik: while Stern interviews strippers, O&A just want them to take off their clothes.

...[They get] laughs from discomfort. Like listening to a gay man perform oral sex on a woman for 'N Sync tickets. "

Obviously geniuses. Not influenced by Howard Stern at all.

All offered in the spirit of information. Since I'm so uninformed.

You know, you can take just about any comedian's bits out of context and they'd look bad. George Carlin, David Cross, even the board hero "Dave Chapelle".

Yes, the bit was a mistake- they know that. But, it made for great radio at the time.

The show is not all 'ka-ka', 'pee-pee', and 'sex-in-public' nonsense. Anthony has an incredible voice and uses it to do some really great on-the-fly impressions, he is also equipped with a great and cleverly-used soundboard.

Once again, you're obviously not a listener. Don't judge the show on something that was taken out of context. That's like shooting down George Carlin because of his "seven dirty words"- without listening to the genius bits he had performed during that same night. They have made a conscious effort on the new Satellite Radio O.N.A (Opie, Norton, Anthony) show not to abuse their right to 'cuss'- and only do so when it is absolutely neccesary. Opie & Anthony are the best thing in comedy right now, I suggest you listen to a show or two before you shoot them down alongside an article-writer who is also most likely a non-listener. They admit the event was wrong- but there has yet to be an accurate news report on the Sex-For-Sam event yet.

http://www.xmradio.com - you can stream it online now, you don't even need an XM unit.

http://www.foundrymusic.com/opieandanthony - you can download recent bits. I suggest searching for "Steve C" and downloading the "Steve C's Clothes Are On Fire" song parody- recorded by Anthony and his brother Joe. Another good series is the Danza series- Anthony does an incredible Danza impression.

http://www.oavirus.com - A fansite with thousands of O.N.A bits.

http://www.opieanthony.net
http://www.wackbag.com
- Two message boards frequently referenced on the show.

WHAR it seems that listening to Opie is making you really aggressive and angry........!

Just remember, it's dangerous to build an identity based on the rants of someone like Opie.....it sounds like he and his buddy are kinda frustrated guys going big on the air.

Noise, they are influenced by Howard.
I never said they weren't. Are you crazy?

ONA, like many radio hosts, grew up listening to Howard. They respected him, and loved his radio wars. That all changed when Howard tried to shut them up when they worked at the same company. Howard is a coward, and an overpayed, creepy old man.

Once again- grow up, listen to the show- and stop putting words in my mouth.

If you won't listen ot ONA- don't listen to their loose-lipped listeners or a liberal website. I'm sure if you looked- you'd also find some positive articles.
"Infinity enjoyed what we were doing for them, and we got the [ratings] that they could sell," says Anthony Cumia, 39. "When the heat got too hot, they kicked us out the door."

On Howard Stern: "He's such a hypocrite and full of s-t because when we were at Viacom, he went to the bosses and made us shut up [so] we couldn't even mention his name," says Opie.
http://radio.about.com/od/archivednewso ... 72604a.htm

If you want to do this article war... we can. But it's sort of fruitless, considering you've never listened to the show.
"We know if we went back on commercial radio, there would be such a bull's-eye on our foreheads because of all the indecency crap that's going on," says Opie.

"You know who I'd apologize to?" says Opie. "Our listeners - because I think we took away a really good show.

For another nice message board:
http://www.saveopieandanthony.net/phpBB2/

Take your argument to one of the boards I listed.

Haha. You seem to have atleast listened to ONA- and you're not taking this too seriously. Cope, you rock.

I hope Noise doesnt go for the "they rip off Howard" arguments. That's such a cheap and easy side- also false. Someone needs to listen to the show.

Poor Ron Howard... all that money, talent and power, and he still can't figure out that his hair looks dorkier than some bad boss out of central casting....

Ron-- dude, shave it shorter! In my opinion there is NO configuration of male-pattern balding that can't be made to look cool... it's all in what you do with it.
