This is the essence of me....
After reading a post about Diana not knowing much of Elvis's music, I was wondering, if you were Elvis, what 3 albums would you have her listen to, to show her the essence of his body of work. One from the early years, one from the 80's and one from the 90's-new century. My choices would be
1)This Year's Model-I think this is the angriest of early Elvis
2)King of America-Unmatched skill as a songwriter. Leaving IB off is hard, but I think this is a better album, by a slight margin.
3)Brutal Youth-This is a tough choice, but this album seems more biographical into his thinking and life.
What do you think?

I might show her an earlier version of the tunesmith/craftsman/crooner/balladeer with Trust
Then vitriol and angst from a later period than TYM, Blood and Chocolate
and a truly mature and polished master of musicians, the song and the studio with All This Useless Beauty

I think the idea though is to show her the different aspects of Elvis' sound. When it comes down to it, TYM, B&C, and BY are all of that punk-ish Elvis sound.pip_52 wrote: But if I had to choose:
This Year's Model
Blood and Chocolate
Brutal Youth
I would have to go with:
This Year's Model
Imperial Bedroom
King Of America
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

Great question, Jazz.
It has always annoyed me to hear that Diana hadn't a clue to EC's music. I imagine that to be pretty impossible.
But I agree w/pip_52, that to know Elvis you'd have to listen to them all. And you figure she'd want to. I don't really see Elvis picking and choosing for her. I imagine him to be a bit humble about it.
I don't know what it is, but there's something about the two of them together that just looks so uncomfortable. Yeah, you see the whispering and the always hand holding.......I don't know, something about it is very uncomfortable looking.

I'm not angry anymore....
