'Reel' Ireland lives in Chieftans

Most bands measure success by chart position,
frequency of play on MTV or FM radio, and magazine
cover space.
The Chieftains exist beyond such benchmarks. Rather,
the Chieftains are the entertainers revered by other
entertainers.
When former angry young man Elvis Costello married
tender-hearted jazz pianist Diana Krall last month,
Elton John was the host and Paul McCartney was a
guest. But it was the Chieftains, led by uilleann pipe
player Paddy Moloney, who were asked to be the house
band.

Well, as long as it wasn't a "Riverdance"!
Actually, that brings up another thought. I'm all for EC having tons of celebrity friends, even burying the hatchet with Sting.
But if he is EVER seen with Michael Flatley.....

You're very welcome John. That's kind of my specialty. I like to think I'm a hound dog in training around here.
I think Jody's engagement ring cost somewhere between $2500 and $3000 and took MONTHS AND MONTHS to pay off. And then I find out I have to buy a WEDDING BAND! Needless to say, I only spent about $600 on that thing. I am, after all, poor.
Well, we went last week to look at a ring for me. I don't like jewelery, or however you spell jewelry. I hadn't seen a ring I liked yet....they were too ornate, or big or shiny, and I'm just not into that. So I FINALLY found one I like. I say SOLD. We take it to the cash register. It's finally Jody's turn to buy a ring. The guy at the counter says: $1300.
Jody doesn't move, speak or breath. I get the impression that she does not want to pay that much. So I put the down-payment on my credit card. That poor little blue visa...
A couple hours later it hits me. $1300!!! That gigantic high definition television set at Circuit City was $1300!
Ah well. They say I have to wear this thing for the rest of my life. Good thing I like it.

When Michael was part of the first production of Riverdance he used to buy his Daily Mirror at the shop I work in. I could'nt resist the temptation, I had to check if his hair was real, so I had a good look. He caught me. The look of confusion/terror on his face was a sight to behold. I hope he's still processing the issues involved. But if he is EVER seen with Michael Flatley.....

Well...I guess I should expect to be confused by members of the opposite sex. Why don't girls play by the rules?spooky girlfriend wrote:Ummm, crow, have you forgotten the words to Sulky Girl?

Re: Elvis` wedding band
More on this from an interview that Paddy Moloney gave to Adam Bennett for The New Zealand Daily Herald in November 2004. The relevant extract is below. The full article is here.
"Chieftans still getting jiggy"
Talking to Moloney, it becomes clear that he and the Chieftains have been sustained over their career not only by their love for traditional Irish music and dance, but also by the friendships they have formed along the way. That includes some of the music world's biggest names.
While talking about some of the musicians and dancers accompanying the Chieftains to New Zealand this month, Moloney is especially enthusiastic about Canadian brothers John and Nathan Polaski. The pair often perform an Ottowan dance which "raised such a stir" at a private function last year.
"I shall show off a little bit - we played at Elvis Costello and Diana Krall's wedding before Christmas, which was in the house of Elton John.
"We attended and had great fun telling jokes, some of them I can't repeat, and Mr Elton John was joining in twice as much as anybody.
"When we went up to do our little stint, these guys [the Polaski brothers] got up and started to do their dance.
"Mr McCartney, Sir Paul himself, just couldn't hold back and he got up and started to do the same kind of dancing, which was hilarious."
Sir Paul, for his part, is on record as saying the band is one of the world's greatest."
