It definitely is out there in mp3 format.the_platypus wrote:It's really amazing that even the audio CD hasn't leaked yet.

The mastering is awful. It's compressed and brickwalled and sounds terrible on these Sennheiser HD cans. What a disappointment.

I guess I just prefer soundboard over audience recordings, so this is better for me.the_platypus wrote:docinwestchester wrote:Sounds fantastic. Can't wait to buy it!

the what.cd mp3, that has been passed on to other sites now, doesn't sound that good but it's better than nothing.
Anyway it's just a tease, buy the damned thing when it comes out.

Part of me wishes this was only coming out to coincide with the UK tour.
I am tempted to leave watching the dvd until after the RAH show, I know I wont though. Not to spoil how the show runs even though I have a good idea. I missed it in 86. I got the solo night at the Royalty

go and watch with no worry SHEEP! it's NOT a damn MORRISSEY show with 19 songs nightly and only slight variation among those 19. it's ELVIS with EVERY NIGHT DIFFERENT! i went two nights in a row at the BEACON last May which were as DIFFERENT as night and day. ENJOY the dvd AND the shows!!!

I just noticed that the Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook has not yet been added to the Records section at
elviscostello.com, so if you wanted to listen to samples there, you can't.
I guess EC will have to pay for another website redesign to get it added.

Just got both formats ( purple= cd+dvd, black = cd) of the 'Spinning album, now on sale for a more reasonable price. I got the cd only format for a friend - I'm not that mad a fan! The dvd is very well done. Lots of editing to create pace , very little showing of cameras filming etc. The sound is excellent. After seeing this proper presentation of the 'Spinning show I'm actually getting quite excited about the forthcoming Dublin show. There's a dynamism about it that the various audience recordings and youTube clips have only hinted at.

Wish I'd rushed my money to the record shops to get one earlier, but couldn't. And now off to Dublin... Maybe I'll need to get one where you did, Mr F! Can't wait to hear and see it. It's still hard to come to terms with the incredible fact that May involves seeing New Order at Brixton Academy and Elvis, the Imps and their Wheel here in Cambridge. Life is sweet.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

Now available to listen to on Spotify.

Well, HMV in Rochdale came up trumps, God bless them, where Amazon let the side down completely. Listening to it now and jolly good it is. £13 for the CD/DVD package, fair play.

SO where about can I find the encores ?
It's not the days when you leave me, but all I fear are the nights.
Re: 'The Return Of The Spectacular Spinning Songbook', Nov.
About true to form the CD/DVD is currently number 36 in the Amazon US chart and number 94 in the UK.

I LOOOOOOOOVE it. My only complaint is its too short. I'm aching to hear Girl and Next Time Round.
Enough of my belly aching of what's not there. The video of God Give Me Strength is particularly OUTSTANDING.

I hate to be that guy, but I have a few things to say about the audio CD. I have not seen the DVD.
I think it's sub-par. I think, first of all, the sound quality is horrible. It's mastered way too loud, with zero dynamic range. Here is the soundwave for "Heart of the City" from the audio CD.
Horrid.
Also, the performances themselves are sloppy. Elvis's voice is not up to par. I don't know if that's just what he sounds like live these days (since he cancelled his BA show) or if this is just a bad night for him, but he sounds hoarse and phlegmy, often off-tune on the slower numbers. "God Give Me Strength" is painful to listen to, especially compared to his brilliant performance in the "My Flame Burns Blue" album. Elvis fumbles through some of these songs, forgets lyrics ("I Want You" is ruined as a result), there's a tentative air to the performances that just makes the whole thing sound a tad amateurish.
I'm disappointed. It could have been so much better.
Oh well. I'll definitely pick up the DVD, I can tell I'm going to enjoy it a lot more.
