Random Thoughts

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Well, Sam, you aren't part of the female viewing population, now are you?

But, I have to say, THAT is one of the goofiest pictures I have ever seen. Even goofier than that infamous LD water cooler one. But I am gonna have to get my boy some of them green cleats.

Image For you Otis as you have shared with me in the past-proof that a beautiful woman need not take her clothing off{unfortunately my daughter's friend had to show me how to transport this photo] but I am learning. Perhaps this will get you back to Toledo, Barcelona, Cordoba, Madrid or all points Iberia sooner than later. As Keats says 'a thing of beauty is a joy forever'. Also that is a name that would warm my heart following a decade long sea journey.

It's very possible I passed the teenage Pe (as Pedro refers to her) on the street back in the day. Actually, I passed Pedro in the street, or more accurately in the Plaza Dos de Mayo. I may even have visited her secondary school on one occasion. She was awesomely watchable in the latest Almodóvar film (people here tend to say 'AlMODovar', but this is wrong as the accent makes it 'AlmoDOHvar', in other words, and to employ three of my favourite bits of Spanish vocabulary, it's an aguda and not the esdrújula that people often mistakenly assume, and in fact if you removed the accent, it would be llana. Love the fact that Spanish is written 100% phonetically, so you know the precise pronunciation of any word from its written form).

Great back. Great hair. Great woman. Thanks for thinking of me!

Finally met the young man who has my youngest's heart-foot taller than me and a deeper voice-he shook my hand, got out of the car to say hello to the Mrs., noted my Redsox affinity and seemed to provide a real condolence over the end of my season-I will give him two legs up for the Sox notice and not lording the Yankees over me and he did choose my youngest!

My daughter has asked permission to burn a copy of my Squeeze compilation Big Squeeze. The generations meet over music.

Had to laugh heartily-latest Slate has a piece lauding the current Levis ads which feature the voice of Walt Whitman and another actor reciting his poetry-appears the piece writer has imagined an MTV type award show where Walt is accepting for his video performance when he is interrupted[like the recent award show fiasco] by an audience member who disclaims "Walt, you were great, but Philip Larkin had the best poem-video this year"- I would pay to watch that commercial, cannot stop chuckling.

You should stick to one avatar for the duration of your presence on this board.

It should be a rule.

MDM - your avatar is not very clear.

The problem with this post is that you could change it and then people will have no idea what I was talking about (no change there!). If you had a "one avatar forever" policy then I won't look silly in the future. It's all about me really!!!

Does anybody on this Board Twitter?

This is a genuine question - what is the appeal?

I have a Twitter account but do not Twitter much. It doesn't really appeal to me, but I will peek in there occasionally.

On the other hand, we seem to have a healthy representation of Facebook users on here and that makes more sense to me.

Twitter for me is all about the following. It helps if you're an interesting person, which I am not, so I don't post, but I do follow. I noticed a remarkable synchronicity this week as the Fuck Buttons got two different mentions within the folks I follow. Also the word "oblivion". It is good for the little bits of news that fall outside the conventional media sources, by which I mean gossipy stuff like Jozy Altidore's little lateness problem, and then his little twitter problem, but apparently it helps with real news as well.

The sublime Bright Star (see film thread) had me hankering for an age where if you weren't with someone, letters were the only way. The agony and ecstasy of it all. All this instant never-switched-off stuff... Actually there was a joke of sorts with Keats sending a message to Fanny via her sibling that she should look in at him through the window (they lived in attached houses), and of course she got the note just as she walked past his window. The origin of text messaging! It was rather lovely.

Is it a sign of ageing, but I find myself hankering for an empty world in which books were everything and music was live? Then again...
