DING DING DING...we have a winner!!

It was "Raindrops Keep Falling On My Head"....written specifically for Dylan to cut, but he wasn't interested in it. B.J. Thomas took it to number one in 1970. Another note...it was the first number one song in the decade of the 70's.

Nice job!

Although both The Thamesmen and the New Originals predated the band being called 'Spinal Tap', the correct answer is ............

The Thamesmen!

Great job, and Tap Into America!

Bow Wow Wow asked one of it's early members to leave their band because he was too outspoken and didn't fit the image of the group. That person went on to become one of the biggest names in the 80's POP scene. Who was it?

Gilli, where are you? Adam and the Ants existed well before BWW, and I'm pretty sure there was never a suggestion that Adam should join them, whereas Marco Perroni joined Adam after his BWW rejection. That's how I remember it. My point please, I have my question at the ready. Having said that, Marco P wasn't really one of the biggest names of the 80s, nothing like Adam, so maybe I should shut up.

I seem to recall that whoever set up BWW, Malcolm Maclaren I think, stole most of the then line up of Adam & The Ants, and hooked them up with the singer, whatever her name is, leaving Adam on his lonesome.

Hmm, I think the question is a touch dodgy:

"In 1980, notorious punk rock spindoctor Malcolm McLaren had just hijacked Adam's entire team (for upstarts Bow Wow Wow), leaving him forced to set up a new Ant farm. Armed with the serrated guitar sounds of Marco Perroni and two — count 'em — two drummers, these musical sav-Ants created a sound they dubbed "Antmusic," injecting the throbbing syncopation of Burundi rhythms into the gaudiest of T. Rex riffs"

and

1979: Adam & The Ants release their first LP "Dirk Wears White Sox" on the Indie label Do It Records. Although the album doesn't chart well, it become an underground hit. Adam decides he needs to "revamp" the look of the Ants and hires Sex Pistols svengali Malcolm MClaren to help them out.
1980: When the very first British "Indie" chart appeared, Adam & The Ants 1979 release "Dirk Wears White Sox" was in the number one position. That same year, Adam and his newly reformed Ants (the last group had been persuaded by McLaren to leave the Ants and join his project "Bow Wow Wow") released the quintessential album "Kings of the Wild Frontier." Taking the UK & US by storm with their singles "Dog Eat Dog," "Antmusic,"

So it wasn't that Adam was in BWW and was askd to leave, rather that Malcolm hijacked Adam's band to set up BWW. So Adam is the nearest toa correct answer, but the question's misleading nature led me to assume it must be MP as I knew Adam was never in BWW.

Point to Oily Slick, or new question required?

I heard Boy George got fired from something for stealing people's handbags once - true story; I'm not kidding - was that it? Probably wanted to stock up on makeup supplies.
