Bands/Artists you straight up and down can't stand

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

I think Avril Lavigne is cute! And seeing that I don't listen to any female artists at all...that's good enough for me. I do like Suzanne Vega's version of Cassidy though............

The Red Hot Chili Peppers. And they're highly overated, too. I just find them incredibly boring, always sounding either chronically self-pitying (especially as they milk their drug pasts, pretending to be sorry about it while actually transparently trying to glamourize it) or trying excruciatingly hard to be exciting.

Me too. And what's really funny is that about 5 years ago, I made a compilation of all their songs that I could stand (for DJing school dances, which I do on the side). I figured that the occasional kid would come up to the table and say "Got any Chili Peppers?" and I'd at least have somethig tolerable. I designed a cover for it, and I named the compilation..."Way Overrated."

True.

While I'm no big fan of RHCP, I do like a couple of songs off of Mother's Milk, particularly 'Knock Me Down', which, unlike later efforts, was a much more 'sincere' drug song. Still, I could probably live out the rest of my days without hearing another song by them.

Knock Me Down is one of the few songs by them I can stand.

Celine-bloody-dion!!!
Don't forget - I live in the city where she sneezes and it makes the front page. And it's not just her. It's the entire Dion clan. Her mother has a cooking show on local TV. Her 13-or-so brothers and sisters had a Christmas sing-along show at the Montreal Casion last December. Can't go shoping without hearing Celine over the mall PA system. My friend is in middle management at Cabane; they recently had to close down the store for half a day b/c Queen Celine was coming to shop. My profs start their sentences with "when I went to school with Rene..." It's a plague. Gawd. If I hear one more thing about her frozen embryos I swear I will shoot somebody.

Typical Rush Lyric:

"Gather the Celestial Movement to Turn the Other Age
The Age of Mystic Life Ascending Upon our Lonely Place"

At least I knew what Jon Anderson and Yes were 'trying' to say. After the first RUSH album, which was virtually unpretentious and great rock, the follow-ups became so stifflingly pretentious that I couldn't listen.

Were Rush and Mahogany Rush the same band?... I recall Mahogany Rush had a guitarist who claimed to be the reincarnation of Jimi Hendrix - although I am not quite sure how that worked as he was already around when Hendrix died.

Different bands - Frank Marino was the guy in Mahogany Rush. I liked Rush back when I smoked pot, but these days, not so much.

Early on, they made some really cool records. Particularly liked "Real Men Don't Kill Coyotes"...and I have a real soft spot for "Under the Bridge", but there's so few good sincere songs about L.A.....

And it once WAS such a nice casino... :( :( :(

(I love gambling there -- it's actually against the rules to tip the dealer! And that Canadian money makes you feel like a real high roller! And then there's all those warning about not gambling too much. Kind of sweet.)

This goes without saying but if I hear one more Ashlee Simpson song you might just see me on CNN with panty hose over my head on a clock tower with a high powered rifle
