What are you listening to right now?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

This really is terrific. I've had this and the Jenny Lewis disc in heavy rotation and they both live up to expectations.

Rabbit Fur Coat - Jenny Lewis with the Watson Twins

This is the sound of criminally ignored genius (nothing like a good cliche on a monday morning  ).

Seriously, if you're not familiar with the work of Rilo Kiley (Lewis's band), you should give this a listen - especially the gorgeous 'Melt Your Heart' and 'Happy'. Bliss 8) .

Now this. Excellent neo-rockabilly, from the early 1980s...

rockabilly. how painful. sam, if you follow that up with some country rock, you'll find yourself out in the garage french kissing your tailpipe.

Do not knock the rock (-a-billy) oily!! When the Stray Cats reignited the musical form in a big way (yes, I know The Cramps were already doing it, but they were too far off the main stream), there were a lot of great acts that arose because of it; acts such as The Meteors who I still get a kick out of listening to.

Anyway, I have been listening to a recording of our beloved's Sydney Opera House concert of the 25th January 2006. It is good to hear it through my sound system as I am picking up a lot that I missed while sitting through the live performance and it really does sound much better than I recalled.

This is not the version available on dimeadozen as a bit torrent, but was recorded by a friendly chap sitting in front of me (he got his daughter to sit by the radio and hit the record button the moment it started). He took my email address promising me a copy, and lo and behold, a couple of days later I had the CDs in my hand... and these are crystal clear recordings unlike that which is on dimeadozen and apparently has FM static/whine during the quiet moments (according to the blurb accompanying it on the site). This is a real 5 star recording.

Great album Ready.

I've just picked up a 4CD bootleg of The Jam called Timeless which features The Jam from 1975 to 1980.

There are a lot of extremely early demos and good cover versions eg My Girl, Back In My Arms Again. Unfortunately it hasn't got the version of Something There to Remind Me that I read Paul Weller said they had cut.

It's great to hear their progression from dodgy R'n'B to soul to new wave.

Has anybody else heard/got this?
