Bowie on Extras

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Bowie on Extras

Post by Otis Westinghouse »

Ricky Gervais's post-Office series Extras hits high form in week 2 of series 2 with guest appearance by chum of Ricky David Bowie. The ruse is that Ricky, extras actor now starring in corny as hell sit-com which he also wrote, has improbably got seated in the VIP section of a celebs bar, but Bowie turns up and so he's ousted promptly. He bribes his way back in, gets talking to Bowie about his failing career as a 'shit-com' writer/actor and Bowie then turns round to the piano and starts up a sing-song about the fat-faced actor with a pug nose, withy everyone in the place having a massive joke at his expense. Fabulous stuff, with some classic Gervaisian cringe moments earlier on in the episode (getting Maggie to pretend to be autograph hunter to impress attractive new neighbour; giving money to beggar who recognises him but not wanting to give a full £20). Bowie looking older, but it is 2 years since he was last with us, pretty much, apart from stuff like Arcade Fire guest appearances. Good ol' Dave.

Sounds good. I suspect we'll be seeing it here soon on HBO.

Can't wait for the new series.
I watched the first season on HBO and loved it. Ben Stiller and Kate Winslett were cracking.

Yes, episode 2 was a pretty cringeworthy one all the way through. Definitely much darker this time around, the Duke accomplished himself very well. There should be plenty of torrents of it here soon

This episode was just shown here this evening. Loved it - definitely one of the best yet and Bowie's cameo/song had me and the wife in stitches. Good stuff.

Good that it's made it. You can enjoy again on You Tube, of course. It is a scream, isn't it?

Stephen Merchant makes me laugh more than Ricky Gervais. And his character makes me cringe more than Ricky's.

I think he's Homer to Ricky's Bart.

Indeed. He also co-created both Extras and The Office with Ricky Gervais

Very funny. He has a knack for saying the most inappropriate thing at every moment.

He's wonderful and very tall indeed. Look out for the one where Maggie comes round for dinner. Possibly the funniest moment in the series, along with Ricky trying to impress a new neighbour. And Bowie, of course.
