Your Ten Favorite.......Roxy Music Songs

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Your Ten Favorite.......Roxy Music Songs

Post by Chrille »

This is probably going to be the 'top ten'-thingamajig with the least participation. I do however recall a few people saying they like Ferry & co, so here goes!

In chronological order:
--------------------------
If There Is Something
Pyjamarama (Viva! live version)
Strictly Confidential
In Every Dream Home A Heartache
Psalm
The Thrill Of It All
Bitter-Sweet
A Really Good Time
Both Ends Burning
True To Life

Had to, but hated leaving out...
Re-Make/Re-Model
The Bogus Man
Just Like You
Mother Of Pearl
Just Another High

This is what's so sad. People usually only know Roxy by the later (and imo not nearly as interesting) material.

Every household should have a copy of at least Stranded and Country Life and probably the first one too.

Great list! Those are my two favorites. I would add the rest of Avalon.

Never a fan, but I think Ferry's "I'm not in Love" is one of the greatest songs ever recorded. And I mean it. That song stops me in my tracks and literally rips my soul from the lower left quadrant (where it resides) and then it forces me to watch while it uses a dull pizza cutter to rip it to shreds before replacing it by song end, it tatters, and never the same.

I love this song.

Back to Roxy. Pardon the interruption. Confession.

Not familiar with this song at all. What album is this on Mr A?

Totally stunned that the Original Roxy line-up does not have more of a following. The first two albums with Brian Eno involved and the third that still has his sense of adventure are essential.
With the passionate following early Bowie has here I would have thought that a whole band that liked to dress up and look like prats would have been unmissable!

Don't be decieved by the later crooner Ferry! His career has almost followed a Rod Stewart trajectory.

Having said that let me lead off with a great late period selection;
Over You
2 H.B
Re-Make/Re-Model
Do The Strand
Editions Of You
The Bogus Man
Street Life
Amazona
Mother Of Pearl
Virginia Plain

For Your Pleasure is my favourite, followed by Country Life, Stranded, Roxy Music, Avalon and then Siren. Got Manifesto, 'tis decent. Havn't even bothered getting Flesh & Blood. Should I?

Regarding Ferry on his own, I like him alot too. Boys & Girls and Bete Noire are very enjoyable listens. Mamouna seemed dull to me at first, but after several listens it's really grown on me. Frantic has some great songs. Havn't listened much to any of Ferry's albums besides these.

Just read on Ferry's website he's releasing a new album in march. Perhaps his recent touring with Manzanera, Mackay & Thompson has inspired him to put out something great again?

Flesh and Blood its actually pretty good, the title track is ace and its got "Over You" and "Oh Yeah".
But you must get "Another Time Another Place" Ferrys second solo album - fantastic from start to finish, all cover versions and all brilliant. "Lets Stick Together" is also fantastic then I would go for the first one "These Foolish Things" then "In Your Mind" then "The Bride Stripped Bare". All first class , wonderful records.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll get one of his "cover"-albums next. Heh, I'm beginning to think you've heard every song I included on your CD Circle discs. If you havn't received them yet I don't think you will. It shouldn't take, what, three weeks?, to deliver something like this!

The last one I sent was to El Vez and I don't know if he ever got it either. If you want, I can send you a digital version (mp3), if you'd want it!
