Let It Be... Naked. Hearing this makes me realise I've never heard the original all the way through. My poorly informed verdict is: why bother? Surely it should be left alone as is. Director's Cut with half of the directors not alive. Anyone a fan of it. I'm drumming with a friend and we have a gig (in public!) booked for May 16 that involves a cover of Don't Let Me Down, so it's good to check it out properly.
Talking of The Beatles, listening to the Pop CD of this, which reminds me why Billy Corgan compared them to the Beatles in terms of an awesome back catalogue:
Not a perfect selection by any means, especially the Fan CD, which I could have done so much better, but still a glorious compilation.

Is DLMD on Naked? It ain't on the orig, unless I've become utterly senile, which is possible... must be on Naked, cause I see now it was a b-side to Get Back, which makes sense.
Oh I see! I thought Nekkid was the same songs but rawer, but it's a different thing all round. Several different songs in different order. It used to go like that but now it goes like this. The latter link tells us: '"Don't Let Me Down" - It isn't the polished studio track that the Beatles released as a single (or which ended up on Hey Jude here in America.) The 2003 cut has a very live, unrehearsed feel. Putting this track on the album in place of the throwaway "Dig It" was a brilliant move.' Clearly I need to read up on all this some more!

She comes from Ireland
She’s very beautiful
I come from Brisbane
I’m quite plain
She’s from the mountains, so close to heaven
Clouds on her shoes, stars on her chest
I love Lee Remick, she’s a darling
She was in The Omen with Gregory Peck
She got killed, what the heck
Her eyes are like gems
She’s an actress for Screen Gems
I love Lee Remick, she’s a darling
Her hair’s red, but it’s not dye
If I touched her, I know I’d want to cry
My life is desperation, but it’s only infatuation
I love Lee Remick, she’s a darling
If you don't know what is wrong with me
Then you don't know what you've missed
Got this a while back, finally getting to know it properly now. A mixed bag, with some very un-lloyd-like production in places, it seems to me, but I like it.
Skipping songs 2-4 (and sometimes 5) this is a great half record.
He's GOT TO play Mideast Vacation on the next door; great song and perfect subject matter. And Emmylou should cover We Never Danced, preferably with Lanois at the helm.
An MP3 of "Swimming In The Heart Of Jane" by Richard Hawley's first band, Treebound Story. What a gorgeous song - jangly, Johnny Marr-ish guitars and all.

Mostly I just watched him mainline heroin directly into his eyeballs which, I guess, can be fairly contemplative. I did say to him once "Charlie, I coulda been a contender."
Though Graceland is one of my alltime favourite songs I've never been that big a fan of Paul Simon. But the mention of Eno and general praise made me pick up his new album on my way home from work. I'm enjoying it so far, but god that's a shit album cover!
