(Most of) The Imposters and Jackie Greene

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

By coincidence, my girlfriend just picked up his last album (no Imposters in tow on this one) and I really enjoyed listening to it. Kinda Ron Sexsmith-y in places and a little Lyle Lovett-y in others.

What's the buzz?By Malcolm MayhewStar-Telegram Staff WriterIn Austin this week, people are talking about . . .

Name: Jackie Greene

From: Monterey, Calif.

Who he sounds like: Ryan Adams, Pete Yorn, other Americanas with guitars and ex-girlfriends.

What's the deal:
This isn't the first time roots-rocker Jackie Greene has made his way into "buzz-band" boxes and "one-to-watch" articles. Four years ago, we were saying the same thing, to keep an eye on this kid, that he was going to be huge and mature into a fantastic singer/songwriter. Well, we were half right: Popularity has eluded him, but now, at 26, Greene has just put out an excellent record, American Myth, that is garnering critical attention; allmusic.com gives it four stars up.

Why anyone should care: Greene's a true talent, and the band he has assembled for this album and tour includes Pete Thomas and Davey Faragher, both of whom are members of Elvis Costello's longtime band, the Imposters.

Where to see him at SXSW: 8 p.m. Friday at Eternal, 418 E. Sixth St., Austin.
