Gotta check this out this time round. Not sure I've heard So Like Candy live (apart from witnessing it on, I think, one occasion), and the comments on some of these versions sound great. re-reading the notes on the KOA reissue made me eager to here more of the Rude 5 live. Ta.

I just got around to listening to this.

The piano intro for CCIU #4 is the melody from the early part of "The Letter Home", (the "why must I always apologize" part...).

I don't recall ever hearing of this -- and he wasn't doing it on the US part of the tour, certainly. (I've got at least a couple of versions from that summer, and I don't THINK it's on there...)

It's nice.

Actually, I now recall that the GBH soundtrack had a few snippets of melodies on it that found their way into The Juliet Letters.

Perhaps that was one of them. I'll have to give it a listen one of these days...

Boy this is a good recording. Turquoise put it in his top 5 must haves, and I can see why. Great setlist, great band, Elvis on form, great sound quality. The MLAR tracks come across so well - SLC, of course, All Grown Up is just too perfect, and this for me is the ur-version of Hurry Down Doomsday.

Bit confused about line up of Rude 5 as I read somewhere that Ribot had left the band by the time they hit Japan, but he's all over this in majestic glory. Did he miss the first few dates and then join them? It's a shame the Costello home page doesn't give tour band line ups.
