What does everyone think about Elliott Smith?
I heard one of his songs today, and BOY AM I LATE TO THE PARTY AGAIN! Why am I always toddling so far behind everyone else?
I think this Smith's music is amazing. What do you guys think? I can't even afford to buy 5 CD's right now....what are the "Must Haves"?

Loving this board since before When I Was Cruel.
Either/Or, XO and Figure 8 are all equally brilliant in their own way. They along with "From A Basement On a Hill are must haves. Then I would suggest "Elliott Smith".
Then I would suggest getting any Heatmiser stuff you can find - his old band. Then get his other solo record "Roman Candle".
Then get all his unrealsed stuff and b sides from somewhere on the web like here

Then get any Soundtrack stuff he did.
Then troll around on Dime etc untill you get all his Live stuff and cover versions like Dont Fear the Reaper and Thirteen and Trouble and I Me Mine.
Then wish like hell he had never died.

echos myron like a siren
with endurance like the liberty bell
and he tells you of the dreamers
but he's cracked up like the road
and he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load

http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB2 ... ght=#14246How come none of you ever told me about ES before?
And you even posted to this thread, LTZ.
You're pretty young to be losing your memory so soon. . . .

LTZ, I too ignored Elliott Smith for way too long. People -- the people I trust to tell me about music -- kept telling me he was "too emo" and that I wouldn't like him. Finally one of those friends admitted she had started listening to him and couldn't stop, so I went right out and bought From A Basement and have loved it ever since.
I do think he's one of those artists you don't need to own everything of. Buy one and listen to it deeply, don't rush ahead. But then I'm not obsessive about my collection...

It's very Pepperish, but I see Paul handling the lead on that one.LessThanZero wrote:What kind of response do you think Baby Britain would've received if it were on Sgt. Pepper, Lennon handling lead vocals?
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.
