echos myron like a siren
with endurance like the liberty bell
and he tells you of the dreamers
but he's cracked up like the road
and he'd like to lift us up, but we're a very heavy load

9/17/57 which sadly sends us back the farthest, so far, down memory lane, and it turns out that Paul Anka's Diana was the number one single in both US and UK charts. Album was A Swinging Affair by Frank. Being in Frank's company sort of, only sort of, makes me feel better.
But not enough, I've decided, so I am usurping the rules and decreeing that July 2, 1967 was my KEY day (that's when we left the Cuban hell-hole and landed in la bella Madrid) and that day...Procol Harum's Whiter Shade of Pale was number one (in the US) and Pepper was the top album. That combo I like. There, I feel better already. I am pretty sure, though, that the Beatles did not top Franco's hit parade, since I recall them being referred to by my teachers as the "Yeyes" (I am assuming because of "she loves you, yeah...") and derided as peludos salvajes.

On 9th Feb 1962 ...
UK:
Cliff Richard & The Shadows - "The Young Ones"
That's more than a little disappointing, frankly. Oh well!
I do a bit better in the States:
Joey Dee & the Starlighters - "Peppermint Twist"
Born on 9th Feb:
1942 - Carole King
1955 - Jimmy Pursey ( vocalist, Sham 69 )
1963 - Dave Rotheray ( guitarist and tunesmith with The Beautiful South )

I Can See Clearly Now - Johnny Nash (US)
Clair - Gilbert O'Sullivan (UK)
Various artist compilation (K-Tel) - "20 All Time Hits Of The 50's" (Album)
The album is pretty sad.
Nov. 12, 1972
Also born on that day:
1944 - Booker T. Jones ( keyboard player with Booker T And The MGs )
1945 - Neil Young ( guitarist, pianist, vocalist; solo and with Buffalo Springfield/ Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young )
And Wallace Shawn, though I don't know what year.

UK: Bye Bye Baby - Bay City Rollers
US: Philadelphia Freedom - Elton John
Haven't heard any of those and I don't think I want to.
Tom Jones "20 Greatest Hits" was the UK #1 album, and it must have been a hit in Sweden too, because I think my mom may have that one.
I was born on the same day as Billie Holiday and Florian from Kraftwerk among others.
