Elvis & The Imposters with Charlie Sexton at DPAC, Durham, NC, January 31, 2024

Post by Man out of Time »

The penultimate date of the 7-0-7 Tour will be at the Durham Performing Arts Centre, Durham, NC on Wednesday, January 31, 2024.

Elvis and The Imposters played at DPAC in April 2012 on the Revolver Tour. No wheel this time around.

The venue website says that tickets are "selling fast". Tickets are priced from $39.50 (for restricted view seats) to $503 for the best "platinum" seats.
Maybe 20 or so platinum seats remain for sale here. Further back in the balcony around 150 seats remain available. The venue opened on November 30, 2008 and seats 2,712.

Who's going?

I'll be there in the 5th row in front of Steve. Will attempt a setlist and review, as usual.

Incredible high-energy show! Most of the "classics" were radically reworked, leading to improvisation and experimentation. The new songs were bawdy and rambunctious. Even the stories he's been telling throughout the tour were taylored slightly to the N.C. audience. I don't think I've ever seen EC as happy and playful on stage! There's echoes of the vibe he seems to have connected with during the Gramercy shows (second-hand knowledge as I wasn't there and only read the accounts) which is "play it loose and have some fun."

No real surprises tonight as far as songs not played on previous nights of the tour with the exception of the full Radio Soul before the band version of Radio Radio. The surprises came within the execution of the songs.

The great Charlie Rich song!

It was an incredible performance. EC announced he was going to play one on his own on piano. Eventually he called the band to the song and they tentatively played along as EC called out the changes: "one . . five. . . four. . . five". Never seen that at an EC show before. 7-0-7!!!

This seems like a pretty big surprise! 4th time ever and only second since 81- very cool he pulled this one out.

I didn't realize this was such a rarity when I wrote my brief account. Thought it was played earlier on this tour. Makes seeing it that much sweeter.

We got a different Charlie Rich song in Houston that he had never played before, and yes, this was a treat indeed! Super jealous!

Incredible.

How many other artists could do this?
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?
