I love EC and Johnny Vegas but this show was excruciating. Wasn't Elvis pushed around in a pram?Azmuda wrote:New on Thebox:

Even completists would struggle with justifying this purchase!
Who’s this kid with his mumbo jumbo?

Phil Jupitus of Nevermind the Buzzcocks fame was in the 5th row in Edinburgh with actor Ewan Bremner also there (he's best known for being Spud in Trainspotting). Other than Everything but the Girl, any other well kent faces spotted attending?

Phil Jupitus may well be at Southend Wednesday. As far as I know he still lives in Leigh on Sea just up the road. Crime writer Mark Billingham went all three nights at the RAH.

Checking out at an epicenter of American Consumerism this evening- the grocery store[ Stop & Shop] was surprisingly serenaded by "Radio, Radio" which in a nod to Mr. Dylan's piece sneers mightily at said consumerism.

Pretty good review of Questlove's memoirs[to date] in today's New York Times:
http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/26/books ... ?ref=books
It is quite easy to see why he has hit it off so well with Mr. Costello over the years- he is basically an inner city version of the man- complete down to the eclectic, didactic and near encyclopedic immersion into and familiarity with contemporary music!!

Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
From my last few gigs, Lucinda Williams' last pre-show tune before her Edinburgh gig was 'Watching the Detectives'. Had a quick word with her afterwards and mentioend that Elvis had played just along the road the week before at The Festival Theatre, and she said she was soory she missed him as everyone seems to be in the UK right now, and it would be good for them all to catch up. Suggested a big gig at mine if they needed a venue for such an event
Also, from Burt Bacharach's gigs, he mentioned (to many cheers) that Elvis and he are working on a stage show using 6 or 7 songs from painted from Memory Plus another 6 or 7 new songs. Much of his live shows involves medleys just to get through his amazing back catalogue, but God Give me Strength gets played in it's entirity. The singer who performs it on this tour, John Pagano, got a great reception for this at both the Glasgow and Edinburgh shows.

Pete Thomas has been recording today in The Square Studio, Hoxton, London , according to this photo & comments posted on Facebook by Roger Bechirian, who is producing. I asked who & got no answer. Is it time to be wildly speculative & fantasise about Elvis 'n co using the days off the road to 'bash out' a Blood & Chocolate style quickie of an album?

Mention of Roger Bechirian is spooky... two of The Undertones were interviewed on BBC Radio Ulster yesterday and talked about how they met Elvis Costello on Top of The Pops and he recommended RB to produce their first album (which he did):

"PR in place, bootleg under much scrutiny, Roger finished Pete Thomas sessions. Things are looking good. soon they cried very soon....Pete Thomas appears on some tracks from the second Blankets album and he is BRILIANT!!! Listen out for Mr Munsen and Baby Don't you Change. We are certain that no one can boot leg this album. Pure pop taken to another level."

That pic of Steve is from the original UK vinyl release of Armed Forces. I'm lucky enough to own this and somehow managed to not lose the cool inside art, along with the Hollywood High 45.SteveL wrote:Photo (on right) from there pretty funny, "Sorry... This attraction is not in operation today"...

From Uncut (Aug.'13) - proper order!
Re: Relatively Insignificant EC Stuff. . .
Just got around to watching the much-overlooked and highly entertaining "Cloud Atlas" from last year. At one point, Jim Broadbent's character is being introduced to a small group of fellow residents at an old-folks home, and the lady in the group is introduced as "Veronica Costello." Given the subject matter of the song, and the fact that this character in the film suffers from Alzheimer's or some related disorder, I'm sure this was no coincidence.

A teenager in New York: Sightseeing by speedboat and bumping into Elvis Costello
By Miles Ellingham
PUBLISHED:14 July 2013
(extract)
Our second choice was more sedate - a night at a famous jazz club called the Blue Note, where we watched pianist McCoy Tyner (a veteran of John Coltrane's group) do his thing. On the way out, I accidentally bumped into a man and realised that it was Elvis Costello. Dad decided this gave his choice of night out a bit more credibility.
It's difficult to verify this. Most of McCoy's recent show's at the Blue Note , that I can find details of, clash with Elvis being out of New York. In February he was in Australia and June he was in England.
Gosh - The Mail getting their facts wrong - now there's a surprise!
