I can't remember which thread it was wherein WSS was discussing Richard Hawley, but somehow I had a large DUH moment (those becoming alarmingly more frequent, I should add) that he was on the current WORD Magazine comp. DUH.
Anyway, boy it's really gorgeous if you've got the appetite. Not for the small of stomach, this is full-butter-and-hard-liquor stuff.
Apt description.
Have you got the album yet? 'Cause it's excellent from start to finish.
I also took a look at RH's web site. I wish more artists were willing to interact with their fans as he does on his web forum.
I bought a special cable to hook up my computer to a stereo--only to get here and find that there doesn{t seem to be anywhere on my stereo for this cable to plug into. So, so frustrating. I{m like Tantalus up in this hizzouse.

It's on its way
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.
My Current playlist: A melange of Another side of Bob Dylan, Revolver, abbery road, the thimes they are a chanin', oh mercy, imperial bedroom and the moody blues' greatest hits. It's a pretty good mix.
Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave,
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved,
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied
The new Elbow. So far so good, but am I getting cynical in my old age and finding the hype is too over-excited? All the reviews seem to indicated that they've really taken a step forward in confidence and gone for the jugular, but so far it just sounds like a more obvious version of their excellent first two? Bring back the subtlety! I suspect I'll get to enjoy it a lot more with repeated plays, though.
There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more
Any Trouble - Girls Are Always Right
Derivative - yes, but nonetheless a collection of very enjoyable pop songs in the vein of Costello and Joe Jackson.
If you don't know what is wrong with me
Then you don't know what you've missed
selfmademug wrote:IP, I loved that record when it came out, though here, at least, the LP was called Where Are All the Nice Girls? On Stiff, no? Very Squeeze-ish also.
Mug, Girls Are Always Right is a 2002 compilation, which contains almost all songs from their two albums released, yes, by Stiff Records.[/i]

Such a great band...'Touch and Go' is one of my favourite songs and should have been a massive hit.
I've just started listening to You Could Have It So Much Better - Franz Ferdinand.
So far it's OK but it's the difficult second album. There's a certain Franz Ferdinand sound which is good if you like it. Lyrically there seems to be a lot of humour this time.

Well, my daughter likes it. She asked me to play it on the way to and from the A&P yesterday. So it has a lot of appeal for 5-year old girls, if nothing else.
FF is not exactly the deepest band in the world, but if you're in the mood they're an awful lot of fun.
