Another day off?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

Another day off?

Post by BlueChair »

So I had Friday off because of this whole power failure thing. But I never thought I'd have today off too. I woke up as usual, took a shower, and got ready for work. When I looked at the morning paper however, it doesn't Federal, Provincial, and Municipal government workers aside from those deemed essential should stay at home.

And on the government website it says:
For this week, the provincial government will continue to operate with essential services only, to assist with conservation efforts. Federal and municipal governments are requested to do the same. This approach will be re-evaluated on a 24-hour basis.

This week was supposed to be my last week, but it sounds like my last week won't exist!

How do you feel about being deemed "nonessential"?

I have to face the facts. Someone who works in heritage is not as important as someone who works in health care :)

Try not to take it so hard, Blue. Usually you don't want to be what they refer to as "essential". Not always a good place to be.

Anyway, essential is a relative term.

It's only a summer job anyway, and I'm perfectly content to take the time off. Especially since I think they still have to pay me.

I've had 6 months off since taking redundancy at the end of January. It's starting to get boring now, especially as my daughter is halfway through her 6 week school break (I have to compromise and let her watch cbeebies some of the time instead of listening to music all day!!!), so I am going to start looking for a job seriously now. Honest!

My only memory of Prince Edward Island is of my dad ripping up a comic book that he had just bought me. I was 10. I was crushed at the time, but I can chuckle now. After all, it was his money!

I also remember red sand on the beaches. And potatoes. And Anne of Green Gables.

Not that I mind so much today. I was planning on taking off early afternoon anyway cause I'm part of a wedding party tonight.

not the groom, are you? there's one thing I miss about school (besides the library) and that's the occasional snow day. you just don't get them when you're working unless it's some kind of natural catastrophe, which I guess in a way this power thing is--for you anyway, blue! enjoy. especially if they're paying you anyway!

I *hope* they're paying me! If not, I will be writing a letter to our Premier :D

I'm no groom! Just an usher.

And I'm off again last night. I don't mind so much, as I am recovering from last night's wedding :)

No, but it was a lot of fun. I had never been to a wedding that wasn't of a family member's before. We danced up a storm and drank a lot!
