Listened to the first few tunes in the car on the way home with my son. He fell asleep, so I turned on the baseball game instead (naps are like gold). Will try to give it a listen tomorrow if work does not intrude!El Vez wrote:WSS -
The Dirty South was my favorite album of 2004. If you like it, go from there to Decoration Day and then Southern Rock Opera. They also have a solid live dvd out although I wish the lighting were a little better on that one.

I'm listening to a Billy Bragg bootleg from 1987 of excellent quality, which I'm currently downloading from a fine site I just found....

And that's one of the best on 1977. Great stuff. I have the fabulous Once In A Lifetime box set. Humongous and beautiful. A friend commented 'you'll need to build a special shelf to house it!' and although I stiopped short of getting a saw out, it does have to sit in a unique and special place atop my CD racks. One thing I must get that I don't really know at all is The Name Of This Band Is Talking Heads.Who Shot Sam? wrote:Talking Heads - "Pulled Up"
Their early work had such tremendous energy and humor.

Pernice Brothers are on a Sears ad? Is it a local or national ad?selfmademug wrote:I had a major moment of D'oh! earlier today when I decided to find out what that pretty song on those new Sears ads was... and found it's those same Pernice Bros you've all been talking about here! (Song is There Goes the Sun.)

It's a coat ad? I get it.selfmademug wrote:I'm sure it's a national ad. Very slick and appealing in an Indie/MTV aesthetic, with their current slogan being "Cooler every day". Oh, and I really want that coat with the military buttons in the last shot.
Doesn't really bother me that much - it's his music and he can do with it as he pleases. Joe Pernice should be raking it in, given his voice and gift for melody. Instead he's scraping by. So if Sears is throwing a few dollars his way, that's fine by me.

I absolutely agree, as I tried rather flailingly to express in the GAP thread. Music videos were and are nothing more than artful ads for the music; I don't see any diff if the music is used simultaneously to sell Sears's new image, if it gets the music out there.
Clearly I am their target market, as I want both the music AND the coat (there are lots of different clothes in the ad, not just the coat in question, btw)!

x and Y by Coldplay...
Many say that coldplay always sound the same, and in a way it's true. But it's all about opinions, just like my Bjork comment. I am not ignorant, at least not in that subject. I have heard many times Bjork and quite simply I don't like it, like I know many of you probably don't like Coldplay.
Here's an interesting thing about coldplay and Elvis Costello:
They have both had their first 3 cds almost identical to each other in musical style. Coldplay's next album will decide if they are taking an EC path (just like Get Happy was Elvis's first experiment album).
The lead singer has a wife, even early in his career, like Elvis.
The real highlights and brainpower of both bands (Coldplay + EC an' the attractions are the lead singers).
...hope you found that interesting![Laughing ](./images/smilies/icon_lol.gif)

Preacher was a talkin' there's a sermon he gave,
He said every man's conscience is vile and depraved,
You cannot depend on it to be your guide
When it's you who must keep it satisfied
