Probably, seeing as how adaptable he seems to be, but I think his image/lyrics would have been different, not really being in tone with the 60s thing.

I am not sure about the 1960s. IMHO EC arrived on the scene at just the right time (late 1970s when Disco and Stadium Rock ruled and prior to MTV de-evolution) to make his statement.
