Pointless trivia alert:

Covering songs live CAN be a problem actually. Club owners have to pay a subscription to ASCAP/BMI if they hire perfomers who play covers. (Or to have a juke box, believe it or not). Basically, they profit from creating an atmosphere in which these songs are an integral part, so the record companies and publishing companies get a piece. Oliver's Army once lost a gig because we didn't play original material--the club owner was unwilling to pay the subscription and only hired original acts as a result.

No big deal though. Most clubs pay what is ultimately a nominal fee. It more than pays for itself in the long run.

But, doesnt that apply to only Cover Bands? If a headlining act like Saves the Day wants to cover an old song, on the spot, they are allowed to do it, no?

Technically, no. Even in that case, BMI/ASCAP is supposed to get their money. Now if the band is performing in pulblic for free, then it's different. But if money is being made, by anyone, on the performance of someone else's song, the owner of the rights to that song is owed money legally. Even if it's only one song in a whole set.

That's why so many restaraunts make up their own song instead of Happy Birthday if a diner is celebrating. The owner of the publishing rights to Happy Birthday is supposed to get royalties if the song is used in a commercial venue by employees.

Well, that'll learn me for ignoring the thread. I'll put my mp3 of Black Sails up somewhere, even though it has no cymbals.

Of course I've contributed a whole lotta nothing except for being a member of the forum who thought it was a cool idea to make a tribute disc to EC.....AND YOU HAvE!!!

It would be much appreciated if you could tell us (ME!) what to do, how to get one .......and how are you going to actually get it to EC?

So close, yet so far..... :D

We'll post the artwork and tracks for download so people can burn/print their own copies, but for people who don't know how to do so, we'll develop some sort of tree system.

Essentially, I mail to x number of people, they copy and mail to x number of people, etc.

Copenhagen Fan has been working on a contribution. Hopefully we can have this done in time for the North American shows, where Elvis fans will bombard him with this CD.

Nobody told Francis Ford Coppolla to hurry up and finish The Godfather... the more board members we get involved on this disc, the better, in my opinion. :)

No, but Robert Evans (aka The Devil, aka Cokey McSnortfuck) did try to fire him on a daily basis. Did stick up for Pacino though, I'll give the coke & pussy hound that much....

Patton Oswalt did a screamingly funny riff on Evans' bizarre ESPN promos once.

Oswalt as Evans: Do you have any idea what Diane Keaton's pussy tastes like after it's been soaking in apple juice all day? Not half as sweet as the action you'll catch here on ESPN!

1. Finished yet? (I want to have)

2. When are we doing the follow up? (I want to record)

3. What's that about another list who's trying to cover all Elvis' songs, anyone? (I want to listen)
What this world needs is more silly men.
