Nope.. as there has been little or no response to this poser, I suppose it might be time for a small clue.

It was not Ian Drury, but the connection was someone who had a direct association with him musically.

Chas Jankel (is that right?) contributed keyboards?

Nope... it is worth noting that The Original Soundtrack album came out before the Blockheads existed.

I did note that! Thought maybe he was building up work as a session musician...

This is getting tricky. Dury designing the sleeve is close but no cigar, though we're after a 'who' and the connection is someone associated with Dury musically, and we should note that The Original Soundtrack was '75, before the Blockheads existed. Hmmm. Well I've retrieved the two vinyl LPs, studied all notes, and ... not even close, never mind the cigar. TOS was performed and produced, enginneered and mixed entirely by the band, the only other name to appear is Melvyn Abrahams, who cut the master. The only other name, apart from Hipgnosis for sleeve design, is 'Humphrey Ocean' (Billy's brother?!?), who did the pencil drawings. So it that someone who played with Dury under a different name? If not, put us out of our misery!

Otis my man!!

Thanks to your persistence and great investigative work, I am going to have to award you the point. It was indeed Humphrey Ocean, who happened to be the bass player in Ian Drury's original band Kilburn and the High Roads.

Over to you.

Hooray! Well I didn't go the whole hog, but at least I didn't resort to Google.

OK, this is for fun. Let's see if anyone can get this without the aid of a clue. It's very much a 'you either know it or don't' scenario!

Which hair colour do Amanda and Samantha have in common?

The only Amanda I know of is Amanda Brown from the Go-Betweens.
The answer is Brown ?

No, it's a song lyric reference. Like I said, you'll either know it or you won't, but there are certainly several people around here who will know it (though I'm not sure if they're checking this thread!). Actually, Pany Polsku (that's a ridiculous thing to write, I haven't a clue how all those complicated Polish endings work), you should have got it straight off! Little clue: the song in question is one of the standout tracks from one of the LPs in your generally splendid list of 20 non-EC LPs.

Need another clue? ...

You got it! I play it most days of the week, I can't get it out of my head, hence the signature. Can't wait to see Ron perform it in October (see the RS thread). We await your brilliant teaser.

By the way, I don't know why, but ever since a rather good wild mushroom dish in an excellent restaurant in Katowice three years ago, I have the words 'kurki' and 'borowiki' imprinted on my memory. And my kids will always remember the word 'lody' for ice-cream. I do like the Polish language.

Otis, you seem to have travelled all around Poland !!
Any plans for future visits ?

Anyway, my question :
Which album has got Beck singing David Bowie's song, Bono and Gavin Friday doing T.Rex, and the "Trainspotting" actor singing Elton John ?

I've been to Katowice twice! Incredible place. Not exactly lovely, but incredible. I hope to go to Polaand this autumn, but I doubt if Kalizsz will be on the itinerary! Warsaw and Poznan, probably.

Not having seen (or heard) Moulin Rouge, which are the three songs covered in question?

To save time, I will put up the next question:

Sir Bob Geldorf was a great champion of the starving with his Live Aid fund raisers. He was also a perpertrator of one of the greatest crimes against humanity (or at least, those who watch television)... what was his crime?

I hope you're not talking about The Big Breakfast, which was great in its heydey (I'm a Johnny and Denise fan myself). Or maybe you're referring to a rerun of The Wall.

Definitley not... but the crime I am talking about has had an enormous impact on what now passes for television.

so I guess it's me. Which 80's singer/MC told this famous joke at just about every gig :

' Walking down this road the other day and this long haired chap comes up to me and says
"Want some LSD man ?"
I said
"Don't be stupid mate, we've gone decimal now. Pounds Shillings and Pence no good to me any more. 1967 a good year, but not any more"

Another clue, another joke:

'Walking down this road the other day and this long haired chap comes up to me and says
"Do you want some grass man ?"
I said
"No thanks mate, I've got crazy paving. No room for a garden"

Top entertainment indeed.
