Live at El Mocambo vs Live at Hollywood High

Post by bambooneedle »

I recently passed on an offer to get the 2 1/2 years box set on CD. It was
fairly cheap as it was used, and I wondered whether it was worth getting for the Live At El Mocambo CD. So I thought I'd ask how you think it compares with the Live At Hollywood High recordings and performances.

Here are the track listings:

Mystery Dance
Waiting for the End of the World
Welcome to the Working Week
Less Than Zero
The Beat
Lip Service
I Don't Want to Go to Chelsea

Watching the Detectives

You Belong to Me
Pump It Up

Live At Hollywood High
June 4, 1978

Accidents Will Happen
Mystery Dance

Stranger In The House
Alison
Lipstick Vogue
Watching The Detectives

YOu can buy seperate copies off ebay. Thats were I got it and its awesome. You definatly need to have it.
I wish that I could push a button
And talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this hurtin' feeling disappear
Like it was common sense
It was a fine idea at the time
Now it's a brilliant mistake

I was lucky enough to visit El Mocambo at its original location a few years ago. It is considered a legendary music venue around here, with lots of historical moments happening there, including Elvis' early performance. Unfortunately the band I saw there was atrocious.

It was bought out by a dance studio about two years ago, and they built a new El Mocambo around the corner.

As both live performance and historical record, IMHO El Mocambo is indispensible for the serious Elvis fan.

I have to lean towards Holly High because of the great Accidents Will Happen performance, and El Mocambo's TYM-and-prior list.

Both are great though.

Initially, that's right. It had Accidents Will Happen, Alison and WTD.

There's really no complete "Live At Hollywood High" release, I just called it that, and listed the 9 songs from HH that are on the Armed Forces bonus disc.

Considering LAEM is about half of each of the first 2 albums (plus Little Triggers) alone, live, makes my mouth water... I wouldn't pass it up again like I did, given the chance. Will check ebay, thanks.

If memory serves, LATEM was briefly available as an official download for about $8. Am I imagining this?

I love that guy! Nothing makes me happier than seeing (or hearing, in this case) people really enjoying themselves.
