How large are our record collections?

This is for all non-EC or peripheral-EC topics. We all know how much we love talking about 'The Man' but sometimes we have other interests.

How large are our record collections?

Post by BlueChair »

I know not everyone counts this sort of thing, but approximately how many CD's (and LP's, for those of us who still keep them) do we have?

I have just under 500 CD's (not including burned CD-R's, which would put me well over 500), and I probably have about 400 LP's.

Do I listen to them all? Gosh, no, but I do listen to a surprisingly large amount of them.

600 CDs (none burned from other sources except a dozen or so boots). I'm about to move in with my girlfriend who has 400 or so that aren't repeats of mine! Yikes!

I would guestimate that I have between 300-350 CDs, but I havent counted properly in quite a while. Id say I have about the same number of LPs, maybe closer to the 300 end . . .

guestimate of 450 cds. I still have a load of vinyl stashed but don't have a record deck anymore so I won't count them.

600? 700? Been a while since I counted. They're a huge disorganized mess which I *hate*. But that will be remedied when I move!!

2000+ CDs, I guess. Since I got Broadband I'm "trying out" 2 to 3 albums per day. I also plan on buying a huge extenal hard drive and swapping MP3/AAC libraries with some pals. Gotta love music.

On a not wholly unrelated note, I seem to have bought more DVDs than CDs so far this year.

10 inches.

PS Dr J, are the Irish authorities too busy putting out fags to worry about large-scale file-sharing? I hope so!

You funny.

It is sad that these days my listening is limited MUCH more by time and circumstance than by availability of good music. Though I suppose the reverse would be even sadder....

I hope so too. I spend so much money in record stores and on concert tickets that I really don't feel that guilty about it.

Plus I think the smoking ban is kickass. It's so odd to see people nipping out for a fag.

Back to the question....

Not nearly enough. Hopefully I'll be inheriting somewhere around 500 CD's, and 400 LP's before too long

Inheriting? Is there something you should be telling us here? Does our moderator know about your plans?

Hehee - just a joke between us for now. It goes both way at least (though he owns more CD's *and* DVD's than I do). I think I win in this deal all around :D

I have about:

850 cds
100 burned cds
50 cassettes
and about 1500-2000 live bootleg cds of many bands

...and I am only 18
I wish that I could push a button
And talk in the past and not the present tense
And watch this hurtin' feeling disappear
Like it was common sense
It was a fine idea at the time
Now it's a brilliant mistake

Currently I probably have somewhere in the order of 600 CDs and a similar number of LPs. However, very soon I will be purchasing a cheap turntable with built in pre-amp and transferring my entire vinyl collection onto my PC's hard-disk drive, after which I will sell off the LPs and free up a lot of garage space.

DVD collecting seems to have taken up most of my dollars these days... my collection now being over the 700 mark.

Its not that. I have been getting them for my birthday since I was 10 and I have a part time job with nothing to spend my money on except music related stuff.

Early start!

I didn't start buying CD's seriously until I was probably around 15 or 16, and I'm 22 now.
