How rich is Elvis?

Post by seemore »

Just out of curiosity,
I wonder how rich Elvis is?

He seems to be pretty rich,
though not one of the very richest celebrities,

But he does have some super rich friends,
like Paul McCartney and Elton John.

So does anyone want to take a guess on this,
or do you think it's a bad question?

I guess you're right, but it doesn't rhyme.

Don't worry about that. Rhyming can limit a poem. The line breaks are superb.

Ted Hughes would have been proud to produce verse like yours.

Thanks.

I hope someone can answer my question about
how rich Elvis is,
he seems to be pretty rich,
even though he only had one hit single in the U.S.,
I guess b/c he's done so many great albums, and concert tours.

Like anyone of Irish extraction, Elvis keeps his finances to himself. I'm sure the publishing from his 'classic' work is a nice earner for him. He very shrewdly has a reversion clause in any of his record contracts, which means he gains ownership of his back catalogue after a certain period of time. If the work he had done on his house in Dublin is anything to go by, http://www.lisney.com/showsearch.asp?Fo ... &RSID=1716 , he's doing ok.

I happen to have a page ripped from a two-year-old issue of the NYT Magazine on my fridge that features an interview with 'im....

Q. Do you get a check every time they play PUMP IT UP at a basketball game?

A. Yeah, probably. I'm doing fine. I didn't get into it to get rich.

The August 1998 Q magazine has Elvis ranked as the 68th wealthiest British rock star:

Lets not get into his high six figure/low seven figure book deal.

If what "Q" magazine reported a couple of years back in their "richest" issue, then the "man" is/was worth about 15 million pounds. Good investments, etc... He had had the same business managers since the 70's. A very consevative bunch that have wisely handled his affairs. I know Cait made out very well as did the first wife and son.

Well, that's almost $30,000,000, good for him!

I remember that http://www.elvis-costello.com (before it had a facelift - luckygoon.com) had published a figure for the money generated by the WIWC tour... Can't remember the exact figure, but it was something huge like $US64M gross or something. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Re: His "same business managers since the 70's" -- Who are they? Hasn't he been broke at least a couple of times? They couldn't have done too well for him over the first few albums if he was broke by GCW.
