A Costello love-in at the Vogue

The Province

March 8, 2004

Elvis Costello played for fans and celebs last night.

Diana Krall was there. So was the Tragically Hip's
Gord Downie. And a musician better known as
horrormeister Stephen King was spotted, too. But no
one jumped up on stage at a sold-out Vogue last night
to sing with Krall's new hubby, Elvis Costello.

They didn't need to. It was a love-in. Torch songs.
Straight-up long songs. And a few big hits like "Pump
it Up" and "(What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and
Understanding."

A few select people got their benefit on Friday. But
Elvis gave back to everyone to end the weekend.

We're back from the Vancouver show and the word for the day is
"GODDAMN!"

Elvis hit the stage at around 8:15 and by 10:30 or so the show was
over. We
were treated to three new numbers (part of the Delivery Man set), and
Unwanted
Number, which I wonder if he's played since the first Costello/Nieve
tour.
The standard numbers for this tour were all wonderful (No Wonder,
You'll Never
Walk Alone, The Scarlet Tide, Dark End Of The Street, Either Side...).
We
didn't get The Judgement, though.

We were sitting in the second row, and while I was talking to one of
our
listmembers in row 6 the Krall family came and occupied the row ahead
of him, and
so I had to exit by walking right by Ms. Diana Krall.

Jill's report: glittery boots, polka dot tie, old jeans from old tour,
new
jacket. Jason Priestley was by the door as we were going in, and
Andrew
McCarthy was in attendance as well.

JeanF, you were missed! Steve was clean-shaven and performed
wonderfully
tonight. And everybody go see the Triplets Of Belleville! (We saw it
this
afternoon and it was fantastic!)

Setlist hopefully tomorrow, unless someone beats us to it!

Unwanted Number! Brilliant!

Is Elvis' version available anywhere?

Vancouver setlist?

Postby Cad » Mon Mar 15, 2004 9:21 pm

Hi jf - did you post the setlist for the Vancouver show? (You had mentioned that you would.) I'd love to get it for posterity's sake.

Thanks!

Cad

P.S. And how exactly does one go about getting 2nd row seats to these events? Is there a trick to it, like having a platinum AmEx card or something? Or being friends of the family? I'm just curious - my best efforts resulted in row 17...

Vancouver setlist

Postby Cad » Wed Apr 21, 2004 9:08 pm

I found this on the Elvis Costello home page - also included was a scan of the set list (which the guy standing next to me grabbed off the stage after the show). Interesting that the printed set list is quite different from what he actually performed (though I think that this list has a few errors).

Anyway, it's all here:

Welcome Cad.

In the normal scheme of things Elvis runs through a set list and at various stages puts in a choice of one, two or three songs to play after certain songs. However, depending on his mood, the crowd, audience requests etc. he changes it. It's not unusual that the setlist only resembles a guide to what he actually played.
