Elvis performed Mad About You , from Sting`s Soul Cages
album , accompanying himself on the ukele.

Here`s the lyric -

A stones's throw from Jerusalem
I walked a lonely mile in the moonlight
And though a million stars were shining
My heart was lost on a distant planet
That whirls around the April moon
Whirling in an arc of sadness
I'm lost without you I'm lost without you
Though all the kingdoms turn to sand
And fall into the sea
I'm mad about you I'm mad about you

And from the dark secluded valleys
I heard the ancient songs of sadness
But every step I thought of you
Every footstep only you
And every star a grain of sand
The leavings of a dried up ocean
Tell me, how much longer? How much longer?

They say a city in the desert lies
The vanity of an ancient king
But the city lies in broken pieces
Where the wind howls and the vultures sing
These are the works of man
This is the sun of our ambition
It would make a prison of my life
If you become another's wife
With every prison blown to dust
My enemies walk free
I'm mad about you I'm mad about you

And I have never in my life
Felt more alone than I do now
Although I claim dominion over all I see
It means nothing to me
There are no victories
In all our histories, without love

A stone's throw from Jerusalem
A walked a lonely mile in the moonlight
And though a million stars were shining
My heart was lost on a distant planet
That whirls around the April moon
Whirling in an arc of sadness
I'm lost without you I'm lost without you
And though you hold the keys to ruin
Of everything I see
With every prison blown to dust,
My enemies walk free
Though all the kingdoms turn to sand
And fall into the sea
I'm mad about you I'm mad about you

Where are the photos from when EC calls Sting a pretentious twat and slaps him? Or did I dream this?

Oooops - I was wrong - sorry!

(extracts)

The performance highlights included Elvis Costello, who brought a commanding sense to "Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic." Even a slight fumbling of the lyrics couldn't dampen his ability to convey the romantic wonder of the song.

Previous MusiCares honoree Elton John sang a rousing "Mad About You," Kylie Minogue offered a sweetened version of "Every Breath You Take" and French cabaret legend Charles Aznavour — teaming with jazz great Herbie Hancock and trumpeter Chris Botti, who has toured with Sting — sang a lilting "Moon Over Bourbon Street."

Elton/Elvis - so difficult to tell apart these days....

So, does anyone here like any of the Police's music? Sting is a bit of a plum, but some of the SATP songs are quite good.

I like some of The Police, and even some solo Sting, but I can only take it in very small doses.
This morning you've got time for a hot, home-cooked breakfast! Delicious and piping hot in only 3 microwave minutes.

'Commanding sense' indeed. He looks kind of ridiculous, but his voice sounds great on it. It was always from the ultra-annoying end of The Police repertoire, and catchy as hell with it, but Elv makes it sound rather wonderful. Perhaps he should have done the same to 'De Do Do Do, De Da Da Da' as well! I wouldn't mind hearing the full song.

My wife attended one of these a few years back (2003?) honoring Bono where Elvis sang Kite. I only heard it on her cell phone transmission but she says he did a nice job and it sounded OK to me too

Maybe he's a regular contributor and one day all of these folks will come back when he's the honoree??

Ta for Costello 'Magic' link ... I confess that I still have my original 5 Police vinyl albums/some rarity mp3 downloads ...

I like Sting's 'Fields of gold', not least of all as done by Eva Cassidy.
