Uh, oh-

Tuesday, April 14, 2009
CTV's big name music variety show Spectacle: Elvis Costello With...took a fast fade in Week Two. Friday night's overnight estimated audience came in at just 418,000 viewers across Canada on the BBM Canada "commercial" scale, losing more than half its audience in a week (it scored 858,000 April 3).
That's shockingly low given Costello's big name guests last Friday were Sting and the reunited members of The Police and following another impressive lead-in audience for Flashpoint (1,306,000). Spectacle tumbled from first to third in the timeslot in one week behind both Numb3rs on Global (792,000) and the CBC National News (573,000).

Don't speak the language, but I guess this means Spectacle is going to be aired in Denmark:

Jan posts to listserv-
It seems Costello's Spectacle will start showing on Swedish TV, starting out at the end of May:
http://www.sonicmagazine.com/index.php? ... Itemid=117
http://www.capac.dk/wordpress/?p=7627
On the Costello Fan Forum, "sweetest punch" had got it wrong, thinking it'll be on Danish TV, because he'd come across this Danish piece about it:
http://www.elviscostellofans.com/phpBB3 ... &start=425
But that Danish piece (the second link I provided here) is basically just complaining about Swedish TV showing it, and not Danish TV...
Very favourable stuff said about the series - that it's taking the music seriously, while still being entertaining, etc.

This would seem to indicate that pre-production on Series Two of Spectacle has started.

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."
Spectacle is nominated for an Emmy award:
http://goldderby.latimes.com/awards_gol ... tello.html
Can Elton John become a grand-slam awards champ?
So far only 10 people have won the grand slam of showbiz peer-group prizes — the Oscar, Emmy, Grammy and Tony: Mel Brooks, John Gielgud, Whoopi Goldberg, Helen Hayes, Audrey Hepburn, Marvin Hamlisch, Mike Nichols, Rita Moreno, Richard Rodgers and Jonathan Tunick.
All of Gold Derby's award seers predict that Elton John will win the Tony Award on June 7 for his music score for inevitable best-musical champ "Billy Elliott." Having already won an Oscar for best song of 1994 ("Can You Feel the Love Tonight?" from "The Lion King") and five Grammys, all he'll need soon to join the grand-slam pantheon is an Emmy. He's not only eligible this year, but he's also campaigning aggressively to nab it.
Elton and his partner David Furnish could win Emmys as co-producers of "Spectacle With Elvis Costello" on the Sundance Channel, which competes for best variety series. The show features Costello hosting interviews with, and performances by, music icons such as Smokey Robinson, Herbie Hancock and Diana Krall.

As someone who lacks cable I have to ask: is the show available anywhere on the Internet either legally or otherwise?

Channel 4 are so unaware that they broadcast Spectacle that they happily list it as ''Debuting' on their 4Music station this coming winter -

Don't TV stations often do that when they showing on a sister station. BBC do it with e.g. BBC4 shows then being on BBC2. Glad it's on again. Missed loads of them...

Re: New TV show: "Spectacle: Elvis Costello with ..."
Here's more from a blogger quoted above by Mr. Foyle. The blogger, "Marky", has some things to say about Mr. Foyle saying some things about him...
So a few weeks ago I talked about how at work I wrote a script for Elvis Costello's show called Spectacle...Elvis Costello with... Elvis, himself was actually part of the approvals. Well some guy named John from Dublin found the post and took it as I was writting for season 2 of the show. That was not the case. It was actually a contest for season 1 still airing on CTV for a trip to the Vancouver Jazz Fest.
I don't talk a lot about work on purpose. It could end up biting me in the butt. Here is what he posted on the fan site.

No John Foyle, sorry. It was still for season 1. CTV did announce last week at thier upclose event though that Spectacle and Elvis would be back midseason. I think no more work talk on the blog would be good.
