From Russia With Love .

He nearly did , in 1997 for the album Shaken and Stirred: The David Arnold James Bond Project ; apparently Elvis just couldn`t find the time to do it. Natacha Atlas did the vocal in the end. Whenever I hear Matt Monro`s excellent original version I keep imagining how Elvis would have done it.

He should do an album full of Tom Waits covers, with Marc Ribot on guitar.

Here are the lyrics to this evocative piece( which I've never heard)

Sweet Dreams My LA Ex

Hey, hang your red gloves up
'Cause there's nothing left to prove now
Hey, hang your red gloves up
Baby, no-one cares but you
What planet are you from
Accuse me of things that I never done
Listen to you carrying on
Cheating another love song

[Chorus]
If I were in your shoes
I'd whisper before I shout
Can't you stop playing that record again
Find somebody else to talk about
If I were in your shoes
I'd worry of the effects
You've had your say but now its my turn
Sweet dreams my L.A Ex

We've had it on full steam
'Til the light comes back to you now
Hey, is it all it seems
Is it all you dreamed and more
What planet are you from
Accuse me of things that I never done
Listen to you carrying on
Cheating another love song

[Chorus]
If I were in your shoes
I'd whisper before I shout
Can't you stop playing that record again
Find somebody else to talk about
If I were in your shoes
I'd worry of the effects
You've had your say but now its my turn
Sweet dreams my L.A Ex

Does it make you feel the man
Pointing the finger because you can
I spell it loud and clear
Baby, that tongues not welcome around here

You turned the city round (L.A Ex)
Do you think I give a damn (L.A Ex)
Do you think that I'm the fairer (S-E-X)
Sweet dreams my L.A Ex

[Chorus]
If I were in your shoes
I'd whisper before I shout
Can't you stop playing that record again
Find somebody else to talk about
If I were in your shoes
I'd worry of the effects
You've had your say but now its my turn
Sweet dreams my L.A Ex

Remember when someone said Status Quo are covering "Pump It Up"? I've just heard their version of Basher's "I Knew The Bride (When She Used To Rock & Roll)". It sounds exactly the same as Lowe's (which I love) but I hate this one with a passion because it's Status Quo.

And, Simply Red's version of "Positively 4th Street". OH MY GOD! It's excruciating. What is this? Bad cover day on the radio or something?!

Status Quo should be cornered in a darkened alleyway, poked with sharp fish, then hounded out of the country. Nuff said.

How about Frankie Goes To Hollywood's Relax, in the style of Let Me Tell You About Her.

It might just work

Willow Weep For Me (Anne Ronnell)

Willow weep for me, willow weep for me,
Bend your branches green along the stream that runs to sea,
Listen to my plea, listen willow, and weep for me.

Gone my lover's dream, lovely summer dream,
Gone and left me here to weep my tears into the stream,
Sad as I can be - Hear me willow and weep for me.

Whisper to the wind to say that love has sinned
To leave my heart aching and making this moan,
Murmur to the night to hide her starry light,
So none will find me sighing and crying all alone.

Weeping willow tree, weep in sympathy,
Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me,
When the shadows fall, bend oh willow and weep for me.

To leave my heart aching and making this moan,
So none will find me sighing and crying all alone,
Weeping willow tree, weep in sympathy,
Bend your branches down along the ground and cover me,
When the shadows fall, bend oh willow,
Bend oh willow and weep for me.
It's a radiation vibe I'm groovin' on

No.

Definitely not!

Me and Mrs VG were watching one of those poptastic programmes on cable yesterday and the video came on. I was extremely surprised to realise I liked the song but old Verbal's heart rate went up a few notches with the video. Especially the bit at the end when Miss Stevens walks away all slinkily. :)

It was only spoiled by the next video being [Miss 14%] Emma Bunton (or Emma as she's now known) which spoiled my tea and Garibaldi I can tell you! :(

Pinback, "Boo" (pretty, pretty song, and it's perfect for Elvis' voice.)

Q and not U - "So Many Animal Calls" (c'mon dance now! brilliant catchy fast new-new-new-wave with keyboard crazyness - remind anyone of anything?)

Radiohead - "High and Dry"
if we can rock together, why can't we walk together?

Sulky,

I think I'm going to put that song as track one on the wedding CD's that we're giving everyone who attends! :)

I'll have to make a thread later on wedding CD mix suggestions...

"From Russia with Love" would be great -- so would "You Only Live Twice" even "Thunderball" would be kind of interesting. (The lyrics make no sense at all!)

Also love the idea of "I'm So Tired" or "Tower of Strength"

"Only in America" by Leiber, Stoller, Goffin and King
"36 Inches High" - Nick Lowe
"Bossa Nova Baby" - Pomus and Shuman (or was it Leiber and Stoller?)
"Hey Bulldog" or "And Your Bird Can Sing" or "Baby, You're a Rich Man" or even "Instant Karma"
"I'll Try Something New" or "The Love I Saw in You Was Just a Mirage" -- Smokey Robinson
"Sex Laws" - Beck

Do you think that cover would be really necessary?

I think it would be like of the members of The proclaimers trying to look like the other one (given that they are twins).
