Indeed. Let's count the amount of times that Elvis has threatened to quit the music industry, only to come bouncing back with a new album.Otis Westinghouse wrote:Great song, great performance. His voice is sounding excellent. All this nonsense about not recording and all these new songs! Clearly there will be recordings.

Lifeboat (performed live at Hammersmith Odeon, 22-Dec-83. Parts of the
lyrics were used in "Worthless Thing")
I thought I had this, but turns out I have Dec 17 of the same year at the Hammy Palais. Perhaps I have it somewhere else and can't locate it! I thought I'd heard this but can't now recall.

There's more to life than books, you know, but not much more

"Lifeboat" MP3 (from the boot Oh God, What Have We Done (Goodbye Cruel World Live) — maybe that's where Otis heard it?):

The June Tabor album is called Against the Streams, and the song EC wrote for it is "I Want To Vanish." She also recorded "All This Useless Beauty" on an earlier album.

I'd heard of Lifeboat too. Aside from the lines that ended up in Worthless Thing the melody is vaguely reminiscent of another one of his songs, but I can't quite put my finger on it. Thanks for the link!
Pardon Me Madam is very good. And he wrote it all by himself (apart from the title).
Surely sooner or later someone like T-Bone Burnett will convince Elvis to record some of these new songs he's working on!
